Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Heart breaking stuff. I still remember watching it as a 9-year-old on television and not understanding what was unfolding.

    Justice for the 96.

it`s a shame it took an incident like hillsborough to wake people up tho the fact you can not treat people like cattle in football grounds,at least some good came out of this horrible event

Remember it on the telly as well, with the Heysel footage still pretty fresh at that stage. The rematch I have completely forgotten (I had to check who won).

Looking at the Hillsborough terracing and fences again its a wonder how it was allowed to be considered 'normal' for so long. And of course it is normal still in many European grounds.

    Mike.

The Hillsborough disaster affected many people and is still hard to comprehend even 18 years later, especially the high number of people who died (96) and the 100's injured. Take a look at some of the stories from that day, for example, John Aldridge's writing about it, and it is amazing that many of these players were able to continue playing afterwards, and I fully realize it affected them in many ways.

As for the 'Justice for 96' campaign, there are a number of aspects of that day that have yet to be dealt with. The Taylor Reports covered some aspects, the trial of the two police officers less so.

I think that another full Public Inquiry, an a full report, could be established and re-look at ALL the evidence and statements, and that this is what Liverpool FC and the 'Justice for 96' campaigners could be asking for if they are not already.

Seeking custodial sentences for those involved and 'at fault' on that day is I think not the way to go about it as I am sure that when the mistakes were made, as they clearly were, it was due more to human error rather than any intention whatsoever to kill or harm people.

There have been 1000's of interviews and witness statements published about what happened that day, and although I am rusty about what happened right now, is there anything major that has didnt come to light?

All we can conclude is that too many people in a crush can quickly lead tp asphyixiation and quick deaths for those who through no fault of their own are caught up in it.

Saw it on telly as well, shameful day for the British Authorities.

Its frightening and sobering when you see the names listed like that, especially the ages; it really hits home the scale of this disaster.

I remember that day so clearly.

I was at Arsenal Vs Newcastle

I stood at that end a few times , it was the away end at the time , I can easily see why it happened ( in hindsight of course ).

I true turning point , it's a shame that 96 people had to die before people realised what was going on, and for the authorities to wake up.

On another note , slightly off thread , my first ever GAA game was at Killarney in 91 and I was shocked to see fencing ( which by then had gone in England ) which still seems to be the norm here in GAA grounds. It makes me feel slightly nervous even now. I know there aren't ' pens ' as such but still makes me slightly uneasy.

My prayers for all the families concerned .

    Sad day indeed.
Theres never any mention of the thousands that turned up without tickets and forced the copper in charge into the worst decision he ever made.

Sorry if this offends but I was in S6 that day and this was a major catalyst thats not spoke about.
