Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That brilliant ... so God sent poor old Kent to prison to save the souls of those in the prison. Presumably he also made Kent commit massive tax fraud to get their in the first place .. God works in mysterious ways

    Same here.

Don't think they have anything to do with Oskar Schindler, who as far as I know lost most of his money during the war and had various unsuccessful post-war businesses until his death in the 70s

    {EDIT}

Just checked wikipedia, and the Schindler lift company was founded in 1874 in Switzerland by Robert Schindler. So no connection with Oskar Schindler

No problem, pretty easy assumption to make. If I didn't know about Schindler's rather unfortunate later life I probably would have done the same.

Sounds like he's heading downhill fast. Not nice.

Down towards the end, he says that god put him in with "Muslims, Catholics, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Jews, Baptists, Buddhists, Nazis, communists, pagans, Wiccans, Methodists, Mormons, and Lutherans." Sounds like a religious supermarket -- I wonder where the atheists were when all this was going on? On the outside?

Atheists tend not to end up in prison (http://holysmoke.org/icr-pri.htm)

Which is strange given our complete lack of morals and selfish "live for instant gratification" policy towards life :D

According <cough> to the Daily Telegraph, the bishop of Carlisle, one Graham Dow, has claimed responsibility on behalf of his deity for the floods over the last few days in the UK. "This is a strong and definite judgment because the world has been arrogant in going its own way, [...] We are reaping the consequences of our moral degradation" he explained.

    The full article is here:
Floods are judgment on society, say bishops

The floods that have devastated swathes of the country are God's judgment on the immorality and greed of modern society, according to senior Church of England bishops. One diocesan bishop has even claimed that laws that have undermined marriage, including the introduction of pro-gay legislation, have provoked God to act by sending the storms that have left thousands of people homeless. While those who have been affected by the storms are innocent victims, the bishops argue controversially that the flooding is a result of Western civilisation's decision to ignore biblical teaching.

The Rt Rev Graham Dow, Bishop of Carlisle, argued that the floods are not just a result of a lack of respect for the planet, but also a judgment on society's moral decadence. "This is a strong and definite judgment because the world has been arrogant in going its own way," he said. "We are reaping the consequences of our moral degradation, as well as the environmental damage that we have caused." The bishop, who is a leading evangelical, said that people should heed the stories of the Bible, which described the downfall of the Roman empire as a result of its immorality. "We are in serious moral trouble because every type of lifestyle is now regarded as legitimate," he said. "In the Bible, institutional power is referred to as 'the beast', which sets itself up to control people and their morals. Our government has been playing the role of God in saying that people are free to act as they want," he said, adding that the introduction of recent pro-gay laws highlighted its determination to undermine marriage. "The sexual orientation regulations [which give greater rights to gays] are part of a general scene of permissiveness. We are in a situation where we are liable for God's judgment, which is intended to call us to repentance." He expressed his sympathy for those who have been hit by the weather, but said that the problem with "environmental judgment is that it is indiscriminate".

The West is also being punished for the way that it has exploited poorer nations in its pursuit of economic gain. "It has set up dominant economic structures that are built on greed and that keep other nations in a situation of dependence. The principle of God's judgment on nations that have exploited other nations is all there in the Bible," he said. He urged people to respond to the latest floods by turning away from a lifestyle of greed to instead live thinking of the consequences of their actions. Global warming has been caused by people's lack of care for the planet and recent environmental catastrophes are a warning over how we behave, according to the Bishop of Liverpool. "People no longer see natural disasters as an act of God," said the Rt Rev James Jones. "However, we are now reaping what we have sown. If we live in a profligate way then there are going to be consequences," said the bishop, who has previously been seen as a future Archbishop of Canterbury or York. "We have a responsibility in this and God is exposing us to the truth of what we have done."

The Rt Rev Richard Chartres, Bishop of London, said: "We are all part of the problem and part of the solution. Instead of living as if we owned the earth we need to recover a sense of being participants in a web of life with responsibilities to other life forms and to our children." The Bishops' warnings came as flood-hit communities were being warned to brace themselves for more torrential rain this weekend, with the Met Office issuing a severe weather warning for large areas of England and Wales, with up to 50mm (2in) of rain forecast.

Instead of God punishing the West with 6 inches of rain for exploiting the poorer countries, a pity he wouldn't send that rain where people are dying of thirst.

Probably all part of his great plan ... perhaps he (Yahweh) is doing his usual and punishing everyone for the sins of a few - the ruthless git.

Perhaps god controls the weather when it's used to send us a rain-encoded message, but doesn't control the weather when it's causing drought in Africa. But anyway, I can't imagine why he'd bother to send lots of rain to wet place when he could short-circuit the good bishop by just writing a message in the sky with clouds or something. Now *that* would be cool.

Or maybe the weather has "free will"? I think that would explain it, wouldn't it?

Carmen Electra and Johnny Depp are both part Cherokee, Irish, German and he's part French, Tia Carrere is part filipino, chineese and spanish, and Angelina Jolie is part czechoslovakian, german, french-canadian and iroquois, Scarlett Johansson is Danish and Polish-Jew, sure there's tonnes more.......

    What? Opinions about race? RACISM!!

Maybe not race, maybe ethnicities is a better word. But native american indian is definitely a race, as is general european caucasian, as is oriental and asian, so most of those that I named are mixed races, and if you consider jews to be a race of their own then all that I mentioned are mixed race.

Actually I went out with someone who was a mixture of Danish, Irish, African, Spanish, English, Italian and French, amongst others possibly, and by gum was he ridiculously good-looking. A complete tool in hindsight however......bloody mixed-race......

Seems like a priest in Melbourne didn't like the sound of a family named Hell, so a priest there told the father to take his kid elsewhere.

Consequently, just reading your sig threre and it's something I've thought about quite a lot; the idea that different people bring out different personalities in us, and indeed how complex each of our personalities are as a result. Nice to see it put so elequently though...
