Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can anybody help i'm at the end of my rope with this one. My laptop takes about 10 minues to load when i turn it on and is generally slow to do anything. (It's only about 6 months old) Then the following message appears:

    RUNDLL
    Error loading c:\windows\system32\tmnming.dll
The specified module could not be found.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Sounds like a spyware problem to me.

Best course of action is to install Spybot Search & Destroy and during the install enable the resident tea timer feature this will help block spyware from loading in the background. The run the update mechanism to get the latest definitions and do a scan to see what's up.

Hey thanks the spybot got rid of the rundll message on startup, but unfortunately the computer remains slow as ever. Any other suggestions would be great.

Using HiJack this remove this entry
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tmnmlng.dll] C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\tmnmlng.dll,ksvfdhd

Everything else looks almost okay I would try removing these as well

Your Java version is way out of date and susceptible to all sorts of viruses & such. Uninstall your current version and install the latest version from Sun's site.

I would remove the McAfee scanner software as it appears to have done a fat lot of good stopping anything and use the free Avast instead, once Avast is in let it update itself then run the program and click the eject looking button and select schedule boot time scan. This will make Avast scan the system before the OS loads to catch any viruses or malware still lurking.

You did a full scan with Spybot as well I take it ?

before you do that put HJT in a permanent folder
the pokerparty things are fine id say.

also disable windows defender before you try those HJT fixes.sorry cant give your log a good look atm

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,970 ✭✭✭ActorSeeksJob

First you need to make sure that HijackThis is run from its own folder, not from a zipped file, so the backups it creates are saved.

    * Open My Computer, then click C:\ and then on Program Files or another folder that is easy to find.
    * In the menu bar choose File >> New >> Folder.
    * That will create a folder named New Folder, rename it to HJT or some other name you are likely to remember.
    * Copy and paste the zipped folder here, right click on the zipped folder containing HijackThis, choose Extract files, extract it to this path: C:\Program Files\HJT or whatever you named it.

Please run HijackThis from this folder from now on.

We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

    Open Windows Defender.
    Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

    1. Download this file - combofix.exe
    2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Run HijackThis, click "Do a system scan only" and check these entries if present :

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1ED98A49-05F5-677B-D186-0B936AB5058C} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5B20194F-C69E-833C-4552-02AB3E4088B2} - (no file)

Now close all windows except for HijackThis and click Fix checked.

You now need to update your Java and remove your older versions.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.

    * Click Start > Control Panel.
    * Click Add/Remove Programs.
    * Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE) in the name.
    * Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6, and install it to your computer.
    http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
Download Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1 > Accept License Agreement > Download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language jre-6u1-windows-i586-p.exe 13.16 MB

Your using an old version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, this can leave your pc open to vulnerabilities, you can update it here :
    http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

We need to re-enable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

    Open Windows Defender.
    Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and check Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you check this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

Now please post with the results from ComboFix and a new HijackThis log.

Also those PartyPoker things are fine as long as you use the site?

Wow, great will try all that tonight and let you know how I get on and post the log. Thanks a million, Col.

Oh and yeah, unfortunately, I do use Party Poker. Shame I'm not better at cards, I could just buy a new laptop. C

Good job doing all that, there seems to be no spyware on your pc. There are a few things that we need to fix though.

You are using two anti-spyware real time protection programs - Windows Defender and Spybot TeaTimer - this can lead to conflicts and slow your pc down. You are only supposed to use one of these. I recommend uninstalling Windows Defender as it isnt very good. so go to Start > Control Panel > add or remove programs > remove Windows Defender

You also seem to have avast! and McAfee on your pc. This leads to conflicts and slows your pc. I recommend you get rid of McAfee, so go to Start > Control Panel > add or remove programs > remove McAfee

So make sure your only using one anti-virus, and one real-time anti-spyware protection. Send me another new HJT log after this.

Well it seems to be running much quicker now anyway. I have removed Defender and McAfee I removed before putting Avast on yesterday. Please find below another log and thanks again for your help, you're a genius!!

You are too kind :) There are a few small things we can do to make sure your pc is running in tip top condition.

There seems to be a MskAgentexe from McAfee running on start up each time. Did you have any problems uninstalling McAfee? Can you go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Remove McAfee or anything with McAfee in it.

Then delete the folder in bold
C:\Program Files\McAfee or anything with McAfee in the name

Next load up HijackThis, click Do a system scan only, and check these entries

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {089FD14D-132B-48FC-8861-0048AE113215} - (no file)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MskAgentexe] C:\Program Files\McAfee\MSK\MskAgent.exe

Now close all windows except for HijackThis and click Fix checked.

Try this to make sure McAfee is off your pc please

If you could send another HJT log after all this please

Looking good. Just a few things we can do that might help speed up your pc

    Download: CCleaner (freeware)
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4191.html
Run the installer, and uncheck the option to install Yahoo toolbar (unless you want Yahoo toolbar).
    Once installed, run CCleaner
click Options click the Settings tab
Uncheck: "Only delete files older than 48 hrs.", click Ok
Then click Run Cleaner (bottom right) then Exit

Then go to the Issues tab, click "Scan for issues", click Fix all selected Issues when its done, MAKE SURE you make a back up when it prompts you.

You should also run a defrag on your pc, I recommend this program(its really good)
    http://www.kessels.com/JkDefrag/

If you want me to I can tell you which start up entries you dont need and which ones you can disable if you want to speed up your pc. Just let me know.

Other than that, pretty much all done unless you got Qs

Great, thanks again. You've saved my laptop. No questions I can think of although I would really appreciate that list you mentioned. Truly you are a genius!

Just before I hit the hay then ;)
I'll list all the entries that you really dont need running on start up, however you may want to keep some of them yourself, if so just ignore any that ive listed that you want to run on start up

Run HijackThis, put a check beside these entries :

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [igfxtray] C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [igfxhkcmd] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [igfxpers] C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SynTPEnh] C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSPM Startup] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\isuspm.exe" -startup
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ISUSScheduler] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exe" -start
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DLA] C:\WINDOWS\System32\DLA\DLACTRLW.EXE
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Dell QuickSet] C:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\Quickset.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\bin\jusched.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Creative Detector] C:\Program Files\Creative\MediaSource\Detector\CTDetect.exe /R
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Synchronizer.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AdobeCollabSync.exe

Close all windows except for HijackThis and click Fix checked.

Tell me if you notice any problems after doing this(dont worry you shouldnt but its best to be safe!).
If anything does go wrong, load up HJT again, click "View the list of backups", and just restore these ones.

Also dont forget to use CCleaner, its really good and will help your pc speed up.

Also check this link to find out how to speed up your pc
    http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiemoes/slowcomputer.html

Please tell me how all this goes

Fantastic!! Seems to have worked, loads up much quicker now. Ran the defrag overnight and will check it when I finish work. Thanks again for all your help.

If you want to cut away two more items that are purely optional the Adobe Reader 8 loads on startup but a third party free reader is faster to load and does not require a background service - see Foxit reader.

Just uninstall Adobe Reader 8 from the add/remove in the control panel.

The other is the installshield update service which is pretty useless & not at all needed to be running, download this tool and run it & it will remove the service from loading on startup.
