Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm converting my attic with the intention of making a little home cinema. I plan on doin this properly so I was hoping to get some advice from you knowledgable folk. What do I need to get cinema quality sound?

Will your typical home cinema system do? I have one in my sitting room and its crap. JVC make that included the dvd player.

Should I get a seperate dvd player, and then buy speakers? Or can people tell me what I should do.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm doing exactly this too but I've built up a home cinema in my living room over the years so I don't have to go out and buy all the bits.

Don't even think about those "all in one" cinema systems - they don't even come close to a proper HC setup (as I think you've found out already!). Get a good DVD player, preferably HD to allow some future proofing. Get a decent AV amp, www.richersounds.ie have a few good ones and look to http://www.lyrichifi.com/specials.htm for a set of surround sound speakers second hand, yes they're in Belfast but it's only a nice 2 hour drive from Dublin. Leave out a screen and projector for the time being (unless you've got a huge budget!) and concentrate on a good TV. Alliance Electric in St Gt Georges Street are IMHO unbeatable on price and service.
You'll need a few reels of decent speaker cable (say... 105 strand) and of course HDMI cable or component plus optical or coaxial for DVD to amp.
