What is it going to take for Comreg to be given the powers it needs.. and for eircom to be split up.. this government is a joke, they pander to the OAPs, and they, like sheep, vote them in every time >.<

I find this the most hilarious part
eircom has recently committed to enabling an additional 400 exchanges. Added to the work already completed on broadband, it will result in more than 1.6m (96%) of working telephone lines connected to a broadband enabled exchange. Together with the upcoming Government tender, all remaining telephone exchanges should be broadband enabled within the coming few years. In addition there has been good progress on the LLU issue and customers will be able to move freely between operators starting from next month

They keep going on about how they are committed to enabling all these exchanges, yet they have no firm plan or timescale for them, therefore i dont see the commitment as anything real.

Also, 96% lines connected to enabled exchanges means absolutely nothing when those lines are terrible quality and often on pairgains, which means you have far less that 96% of lines broadband capable, which is what really matters at the end of the day. The long term problems are a) quality of the local loops, and b) cost-effective wholesale rental and transparent/seamless customer transfers ( LLU specifically )
