    Hi all,

Ive had an interest, for a while now, in getting a few chicks to bring home to raise as pets but also to keep them for their eggs.

Ive been doing a bit of homework on the matter (ie: Living conditions, space, food etc) and ive been told that you must apply for planning permission if you live in an urban area as keeping chickens is considered poultry farming.

Does anybody have any information about this. Ive tried googling the matter but cant get any information.

    Cheers!

We have kept chickens here for years but we are in a rural area.

I think in an urban area, as long as its just a backyard flock for your own eggs then you shouldn't need any planning. If you keep a rooster then the usual noise laws will apply.
