    Hey folks,

not sure what genre this fits into...... Anyways, are there any Barbershop fans on boards? I've been listening to the odd song for the past few years and I'm just checking some stuff out on YouTube. It's really so great how many different sounds, etc., you can get with just 4 people :)

Out of interest, is there many Barbershop quartets based in Ireland? Any teachers who specialise in this kind of music?

    Cheers

Probably best in Music, not really Alt/Indie

Don't really know any white barbershop, but for black quartets/(quintets) I'd recommend
    The Golden Gate Jubilee Quartet
The Original Five Blind Boys of Alabama
    The Swan Silvertones
    The Fairfield Four

mostly Gospel, well worth a listen

    Oh, finally, a fellow fan.

Check out first and foremost Rockapella, the brown derbies, the flying pickets, the Mighty Echoes, The Testostertones, the wise guys, the swingle singers, and a few more I can't think of. Go to pandora.com and type in one of the above groups. Or search a lot of american college's websites, a lot of them have groups like this.
I've been in an off and on barbershop group for the last while, did a few gigs in Galway, til our top tenor dropped out. You won't find a teacher that does barbershop specifically, but ones that specialise in male voices.

Cork Choral Festival is on next week, and Navan National Choral festival the week after, both have male voice categories that you should hear some barbershop in, but it'll probably be auld lads doing For the longest time or When I'm sixty four or something, unless a dublin crowd called Enchiriadis are performing, they have a few guys who do barbershop. We should be competing in the male voice category in Navan if we pull the finger out and learn a few pieces.

Drop us a pm or an email if you want more info. Good to hear it's not as dead as I fear!

    Hi all

Barbershop is alive and well in Ireland. I sing in The SeaSharps and also Harmony Federation, Ireland's national male chorus. We welcome new members and enthusiasts!

Just search 'barbershop quartet champions' on YouTube for great examples of the best out there. Lots in the US.
