Our beloved 13 year old Norfolk terrier appears to be going deaf. Does this impact much on her quality of life or do dogs mostly rely on their sense of smell?

Should not be a problem-once her eyes are o'k and she will use her nose also-just use visual cues and affection more...

Her sight seems fine and she is very healthly. Affection is not her strong point. Shes an independent grumpy old thing who in 13 years has never once came when she was called.....but thats why we like her :D

Good to know that it won't affect her quality of life in her twilight years

I have a 15 year old Golden lab, his hearing has deteriorated rapidly in recent months but he's still his happy contented self. As long as your dog is well looked after loss of hearing has very little impact on their quality of life. Although my dad says he's now a useless guard dog!

Deaf dogs can get frightned easily if they don't hear you approaching them eg if they're dozing or sleeping. They won't hear cars or stuff like that when they're out and about so keep her on a lead! Also if they're out for a run they mightn't be able to hear you calling them so don't let her stray too far. But other than that she should manage well.
