Milan to win both legs against United. And Liverpool to go through in a VERY close contest, penalties perhaps with two 1 nil home wins.

leading to a replay to the greatest final of all time

WITH THE RIGHT RESULT THIS TIME:D :D:D:D

come down to centre midfield exerting pressure and influence.

At the weekend Scholes and Carrick went completely deep to try and cover Brown and O'Shea. The result was Boro controlling the tempo and having space to run into (see Kaka barrelling down).

If Milan are allowed to do that Utd will be beaten and beaten well. Gattuso and Pirlo have to be pressured and the tempo has to be kept high if Ronaldo & co. are going to be given a platform to take the game to Milan.

In regards to the other semi - y'know, I think Chelsea are there for the taking if Liverpool go for the jugular. Benitez has no idea how to win the premiership but my god can he pace this team for the final push in Europe.

How things pan out over the second leg, well, I wouldn't even hazard a guess. It depends how these games go and what players become available again.

Presume ya mean a comfortable win for Liverpool in normal time then?! dont think my heart could take another istanbul to be honest

Think Milan will win given United's injury problems. It'll definately be tighter than the 3-1 price being offered on Milan.

That bet is really undervalued, people should get in there.

Is he though? He took a full part in training last night and looked pretty fine.

Worryingly for United, Scholes, Ronaldo Evra and Heinze are all one yellow card away from being suspended for the 2nd leg. If a couple of those 4 get booked tonight United will be in trouble next week.

As for Milan having a mean defence I think thats a bit of a myth to be honest. They've only kept 3 clean sheets in their last 10 games and 1 of those was against Celtic, so that doesn't count. One thing we can be sure of tonight is goals from both sides I reckon. Heres hoping for another 7-1!

Pighead thats a big concern for Scholes actually, cause on the one hand, United will need him to be putting in tackles to try and keep kaka and seedorf (whos looking a little revived at the moment) at bay, but on the other if he tackles for a whole game he's bound to get a yellow - worst tackler ever!

    Both games should be close.
Ronaldo will be marked out of the game completely imo. He's a great player, but if Milan double up on him, and they will, he's gonna be able to do fook all. If he gets a yellow hes out which will be a big blow for the san sero leg. They'll have the shackles on Rooney too. Because of all that, and Milans mean defence, this game has 0-0 written all over it.

Chelsea-Pool game is going to be tight as well, I would imagine. Can't really call this one either way, a draw seems a likely result.

Would like to see a Liverpool-Man United final. In reality you could pick any 2 from the 4 to reach the final though. Dont think we'll see many, if any goals in either of the semis.

If any team can stop Ronaldo it's Milan. Gattuso+Oddo or Ambrosini+Jankulovski will double up on him whenever Utd have possession.

Why not? Not being smart either by the way, just wondering on why you think there will be a lack of goals in the United Milan match.

Cause O'Shea, Brown and Heinze are going to show everyone that the have only been pretending to be useless in the positions they will be asked to play, and totally 'pwn' the milan defence.

    :(

does anyone else worry about the trouble that there will be in Athens if its a Liverpool - United final, i can't in my wildest dreams imagine there wont be riots there, considering UTD have had trouble at their last 3 games in Europe and their rivallry with Liverpool is 1000 times worse than with any of their previous opposition!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,594 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Im thinking the oppoisite anyway, packing my fantasy football midfield with united and milan players (ronaldo, giggs, kaka and seedorf, with Gerrard thrown in for good measure). Uniteds fantastic attack and weak stand in defence are surely a recipe for some goals at both ends. I think there will be 3 in the game.

I'd be more worried about the trouble on here tbh!!

But on a serious note, I'd be very surprised if there was no trouble if it was a Manu - Pool final, but surely they'd have to draft in a sh1tload of English police to Athens to control the crowds, or at least that'd be the sensible thing to do.

But before we get carried away there's still 4 matches to be played before you can worrying about that scenario.

They won't 'draft' police officers from one jurisdiction to another! They might bring some stewards in (maybe have some police acting as stewards in the stadium) but no way could I see the Greeks tolerating another country sending their police force in. It would be a political and legal quagmire.

Holy **** there'd be war. Whatever about league matches, if a 50/50 decision decided the CL final between United and Liverpool then the admins would have to appoint 10 new mods for the forum

But as you say, that's jumping the gun a bit* :)

*Cause it's obviously gonna be United vs. Chelsea :p

Dont know what I want the Man U result to be tbh. If they lose this round, its good at the time, but its all done and buried in a few weeks. If they make it to the final and get beaten by Lpool/Chelsea (personally Id prefer Lpool, but Id be almost equally pleased to see Jose grinning at Fergie and crew if they beat Liverpool and win a final against Man U) then in a way its better than just seeing them go out now. My only worry would be that Liverpool might not manage a win against Man U at the final.

I find myself really looking forward to this game, which is rather strange considering it's Man Utd we're talking about here and Arsenal aren't playing them. A unique combination of feeling excited and grossed out at the same time. It's almost like the first time I watched porn.

Both games are impossible to call. As a Liverpool fan, I will say that of the four teams, Milan probably have the best chance of going through, given Man Utd's stuttering form and injuries.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,857 ✭✭✭✭Dave!

United need to play like they did against Roma. Don't stop running, use the counter-attacks, keep the composure. Ronaldo and Giggs should be used extensively! I think we should bank on Scholes being out for the 2nd leg... The eejit can't go through a match without killing someone with a stupid tackle!!!

    I have a 10er on United winning 2-1, so here's hopin! :D

1902: But Paolo Maldini, who is playing in his eighth semi-final, is a spring chicken in comparison to fellow defender Alessandro Costacurta. The squad man known as 'Billy' is celebrating his 41st birthday today! He's a month older than Eric Cantona!

1857: Much has been made of the respective ages of the sides, with AC Milan's average age in excess of 30. To put it in some sort of perspective, when Paolo Maldini made his European debut in 1985 Wayne Rooney was not even born and Cristiano Ronaldo's fledgling footwork was confined to his cot in Madeira.
    Crazy.

Milan have a top quality defence, but they dont score much either. I'd be surprised if there was a goalfest anyway, but then I was wrong last time around:o
