in case anyone's interested - the final Census population report came out yesterday: http://www.cso.ie/census/documents/census2006_volume_1_pop_classified_by_area.pdf

population of Greystones (including Charlesland) is now 14,569

Charlesland is not individually defined but its in the area known as "Environs of Greystones - Kilcoole" which increased in population from 451 to 2,748 since 2002. Safe to say most of that increase is in Charlesland.

And when you consider that the numbers used for that are already a year old, I'm sure there has been an increase since then too.

It's nowhere near Kilcoole, especially if Eden Gate still counts as Delgany...

The census information is also divided into DEDs (District Electoral Divisions). DEDs are in turn made up from a collection of townlands. The Charlesland Estate is mostly in the Charlelsand Townland, which falls into the Kilcoole DED (as does Eden gate, mostly in the Farrankelly Townland). For example the Greystones DED population dropped from 7,315 in 2002 to 7,044 in 2006. By comparison, the Kilcoole DED increased from 4,066 to 6,832 over the same period.

So it sounds like we are in the kilcoole DED. Does anyone know where this can officially be found out? Thanks for all the help so far.

Ordance survey map using the CSO DED boundary dataset.

Charlesland is in Kilcoole DED. Greystones Electoral Area, for purposes of county council elections, comprises a number of DEDs and this electoral area includes Kilcoole DED.
