Spot on! The mininum VRT is €315, which applies to cars that have a very low OMSP (Open Market Selling Price), like the '98 Escort

If you're importing the car yourself, here's a great link about it

make sure you get the V5 form from the previous owner, dont let them send it away and if they cant give it to you right away, then dont buy the car.

its the log book, the english call it a V5 form.
its just got the details of the previous owner and all the details of the car.

i know of a few people that have run into problem when they did't get the V5 form straight away. sometimes the seller will think he has to post it off to the DVLA, but he should not do that.

you just take the V5 form (with all the previous owners details) to the customs and pay the VRT and they give you a reg number.

So basically i take the V% with the car when i pay for it, is there anything on the V5 he should fill out before i get the car??
