Im thinking of getting a 1995 mini to make a few quid. Its a uk reg for around 2100 euro. Its going to cost around 300 for vrt.

it will have a 2 yr nct and its got half leather.

On carzone cars are priced at approx 6500.

Do you think i would make 1-2k.

    Whats your opinions?

    No stupid comments please

Make sure you check the car underbody for rust, quite a lot of our imports are nearly falling apart with it, Brits still spread salt instead of grit. Minis do make very good money here, if you let us know what needs to be done on it, we might be able to tell you if its feasible for you!

There are quite of lot of classic Minis for sale at the moment, but they're all in failing states of repair. A decent Mpi, or Sportpack is close to 10k these days. Most cars for aobut 3-4k need rust removed from all the usual places (A Panels, Doors, Scuttle Panels, under the Headlamps), and subframes can be worrying too. Electrics can be poor quality if not maintained properly.

    It's not a quick buck I'm afraid.

All the reviewers say how reliable it is, despite the fact they're terrible machines. Check out the last guy, he thinks its reliable after it blew a head gasket at 28k, blew the differential at 29k and the engine was knackered at 30k!!!!

hilarious Brits, they love the cars they make themselves, and watch em fall to bits!!

    :D

EDIT: See how quick they rust!!!

I reckon the most money will be made with the original Cooper which is probably a collector's item these days. And they are not cheap to start with in the first place.

I'd say if your buying a standard Mini then you might have to put some time and money into it. Minis from the 1980s British Leyland days were not as well built as the earlier ones imo. I don't think there much chance of making a quick buck here.

thanks for the help guys.Im not really saying quick buck.i would put abit of effort into to maintain it and then sell it on.Im looking around at the moment to find a cheap one and then put abit of money into it.
Whats the best option if theres abit of rust on the car.

You should watch the episode of Wheeler Dealers where they restore an old Mini, the bodywork is extensive, even though the car looks fine outsite. I'm not classic Mini bashing either btw, I'm due to buy a classic Mini myself this year.

Great little cars to drive. Always enjoy driving my sisters 97 model. It's a mayfair not a cooper. But still has a 1.3 engine. They have their fair share of problems. Got to be willing to do work yourself or pay someone to do it for you.

    Because I want a classic too! I considered the GP, but it's essentially a van. A 44000 Euro 218Bhp Van, but a van ;)

Mini values are falling the UK, due to the New MINI getting cheaper. The same is going to happen over here shortly, with only the very late models holding their value well.

Saying that, a 95 cooper from the UK for €2000 will probably have a fair bit of rust.

If you dont know Minis, dont get into the game is the advice I'd have.

Yes you might be right, after reading some articles it looks like there might be a problem with rust :(

If you want to get a further idea about Classics Dre, try posting in the forum in my sig. There's quite a few classic specialists there who can advise you.
