Alistair Cragg broke Mark Carroll's 10000m record last night in California, running 27:39.55. I was confident he would break the record if he got in the right race in good shape. This is a bit of a boost after his Birmingham disappointment.

Incidentally, Carroll set the record at this meet 7 years ago.

    Others at the same meet:

    Fagan 28:18.30
    Kenneally 28:55.49
    Cullen 32:21.42
    McGettigan 16:00.64
    Deirdre Byrne 4:12.79

Also, at the Drake relays, Thomas Chamney clocked 1:48.56, and at the Penn Relays, Rose-Anne Galligan had two excellent relay legs for the DMR and the 4x800m, including a 2:07.4 lead-off in the latter.

Great time and that race looks like it was a fast one. That young american who won could be one to watch.

There's an edited version of a very amateur recording of the race on letsrun.com. Cragg was left sitting when the break happened....

    Good race though.

Its easy not to have a kick when running sub 28!

I'm not taking anything away from Cragg, that was a very fast race and congrats to him for breaking the Irish record. But Rupp had a kick, and when he used it he left everybody except Galvan David behind. Serious performance by the young American.

Great running, I think we can now safely say he is over his injury problems.
