Big game for City tomorrow night.

Should have Flynny and Roy up front so hopefully if we repeat the level of performance that we produced on Monday we should be too good for Pats.

I'm sort of like that. Since round 1 of fixtures will be over after the Wexford match I'll be expecting a bit more from them in Round 2. The potential is there but the experience with the younger players isn't. From Round 3 of fixtures and July onwards with a few clearouts and a few new experienced players in the positions for which Shels don't have players in natural positions, I think we could steamroll through most of the teams in the league. Aside from Dundalk, I don't think there is that much between the other 9 teams at the moment, 2nd 3rd all to play for but I wont get my hopes up, 2008 is the year for expectations for Shels.

Not confident about tonights game at all. I can see SPA take a comfortable 0-2 win, and be the first to score into the new Shed. RICO is making excuses already, and thats bad news.

I fancy us to get a result against Shams , 7/2 quite long odds.

In the other games . probably a draw between Cork and Pats , a Bohs and Drogs win , Galway and Derry to draw and Longford Town to beat Bray

    1-0 to City

    Roy O'Donovan penalty.:)

First goal in the (new) Shed..fittingly its a new legend that scores it!

He needed to make up for the absolute sitter he missed with his head in the first half. :) Cracking peno in fairness. He opened himself up and fooled the keeper.

Good football played in the first half, nice passing from both teams. 2nd half wasn't as good. Gamble has been City's player of the season so far by a long way from what I've seen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,148 ✭✭✭✭Raskolnikov

Great game between Cork and Pats. It's easy to see why they're two of the best teams in the league. Some lovely passing and attacking movements in the match. Deadlock was broken by a peno for City at the 60th minute that was taken well O'Donovan. Game pettered out a little after that as Pats struggled being a man down. They did well to keep the score down.

The new Shed looks great :p

Johnny Mac went on a rant about City fans calling Barry Ryan a junkie.

"Barry takes it up the nose!"

    "Barry is a junkie"

He was caught for taking cocaine, what do you expect from a terrace? Goalies arent supposed to look forward to minding the net in front of the Shed. He takes it in good humour anyway everytime Ive seen. I hope he doesn't take it personally.

Its not in the same county as the stuff Webb received.

Pity it was on a thursday. Would have like to have it on the friday and go on the batter after. Would have been a better crowd too.

Oh and City need a new striker.....fast!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

I honestly thought that was an awful game. City were crap, and I am amazed we won. At half time I would have been happy with a draw. Thats said, SPA offered very little, only 2 decent shots from Ndo were notable, and even they went wide.

As for the penalty, i dont know about what it looked like on telly, but it looked pretty stonewall from my angle. Very well taken by Roy.

Pity about the crowd, but Thursday night football is stupid. Thanks for that Setanta and some stupid rugby match.

Gamble definitely won the battle of the Joeys in midfield. Another immense game. Had Ndo in his pocket for the majority of it.

Massive 3 points, we are only 6 points behind now, it could have been an insurmountable 12. When you consider the stupid points dropped, and to be right in contention, one has to feel positive for the season.

    Diving ****!!!

Only seen a replay this morning and give him 5.0 for technique.

Poor game imo we should have had it won but overplayed it when having 4 on 2 (wtf was up with Cork players falling) Corks 1st shot was the peno

Didnt see the interview but if Ryan was upset with corks fans about junkie i think Kearney and Roy may be a bit upset today, wltho Roy did smile and wave to us :D

There were a couple of Pats fans roaring their heads off at City players too. It didn't sound too pleasant, maybe kdjacl can fill us in on what they were shouting about :)

Heard some Pat's fans on the radio complaining about the torrent of abuse that got levelled at them and their players while they sat at the Shed end. Oops.

Junkie was tame in comparasion to what was said to the Cork players and few bebo kids who were in the uncovered end. Ryan is a full time footballer with a history of drug abuse playing for a team in an area with massive drug abuse nicknamed Junkies, cant see how he got upset about it.

I think away fans get nastier than home fans when it comes to abuse, its funny abuse tho Roy smiled :D, Kearney did not.

I really do wonder how Cork fans think Roy is worth a million when in 3 games vs us hes had one shot on target and ehh thats about it. Has been very poor the 3 times i have seen him.

Counted about 5 Cork players falling or slipping on the pitch last night, what was up with that?

And question on squad rules, team brings 19 players to game hands in squad list with 16, one gets injured in warm up and your not allowed replace him? We werent last night with Kirby

^ I think once you have handed in your squad of 16 thats it.

Rico was saying in todays echo that he wasn't pleased with the abuse given to Barry Ryan. Okay, it went on a bit, but Ryan has always taken that well.

He's been getting that kind of abuse for years ffs.

I didn't see Johnny Mac's rant, but seriously, if he's going to throw his toys out of the pram after one defeat, you have to wonder how long it's going to take to get rasher back in the frying pan.

He was clearly hauled down. Arms all over him .Had a pefect angle from the shed.

Saying that I thought the red card was harsh but there ya go.

Would love to know what the pats fans were singing/saying to Roy and Kearny

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,346 ✭✭✭✭KdjaCL

There were some very bad men in the Pats end, altho funny i dont see why any footballer would upset over abuse like that. Webb situation is very different and very wrong. But even Junkie at ryan is funny and ironic.

Ryan did what he did and is a full time footballer from Dublin playing in front of 2000 odd cork people he should really expect it.

ermmmm Drogs drew with Waterford so we still top and seems this week goes to Cork who are only team who gain something. Derry drew with galway.

    FT Bohemians 0 - 0 UC Dublin
    90' Galway 1 - 1 Derry City
    FT Waterford U. 1 - 1 Drogheda United
    87' Shamrock Rovers 0 - 0 Sligo Rovers

Kinda shocked by drogs they had 67 of their 87 players fit.

4 batterings and humilations for other teams in a row, then yes. How we are keeping pace with the big club is beyond me. Im getting nosebleeds at this stage :o

Rovers scored in 90th minute and loads of fighting at the end, not sure if its fans or players.

We went one up at Dolan's new franchise, but they got a bleedin' OG late on to claw back a 1-1

Another point for Shels, but we're second from bottom.

Should have got our first away win of the season yesterday.

A top drawer goal put us ahead and a nightmare goal (from our defence's point of view) saw us throw that lead away. :(
