Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Jobs in Waterford

Once again thinking about a move to Waterford. What is the job situation like for School leavers? Should be OK myself but just wondering what it will be like for my kids in their late teens when they finish school or college. I've heard mixed reports but some are saying that office work / apprentisships are impossible to come by. They may not be looking for this type of work (I am just their mother after all :D ) But if they were is it available?

There are probably not as many jobs as there would be in Dublin, but on the other hand there are less people looking for them. No-one can say what any particular job situation is going to be in the future. There are factories and businesses in Waterford, I'm sure some people would say 'there are no jobs' and others will say 'well I got a job ok', which is pretty well what you will find anywhere.

I think its a good place to live, but I can't predict the future.

Apprenticeships aren't that hard to come by, there are a good number of electrical contractors in the area for instance, office work seems to crop up a fair bit, but a lot of places are now looking for some sort of experience as they want someone to fit into a running office - they don't necessarily have the time to train up people inhouse, they expect them to have typing/phone skills/sage etc ...
