In the comments Major said "WRT to the Dash update...we don't have final date this week, but I am hoping to get more solid information tomorrow." That was posted yesterday, so I doubt that he would be kept out of the loop the day before they put it up.

Got the update everything is still working, the new marketplace tab is nice.

H.264 video playback is great most of my test encodes played back without any trouble.

Recommend using AutoMKV with the High-Profile setting to get the most out of it or use the HQ-Slow setting to squeeze even more out of it but you will need a powerful computer otherwise encode time will be long.

Anamorphic encoding is also sort of working some of my tests worked and some didn't they stretch to play full screen. Anamorphic is great for keeping the DVD wide aspect ratio though you can resize the video to the same dimensions to get it wide it's still a bit fiddly.

Did it take long to download? I've been trying for a while and after getting a few "update cannot be downloaded, please check your network connection" messages, the update just freezes (the update bar stops moving) and i have to start all over again. Should i just leave it, cos i know it takes a while to download demo games and other such things from Xbox live.

It was only small for me, took about 30 seconds to get and install. I'd say leave it for a while and try again. They might just be having trouble with the amount of people trying to get it.
