Well, the shack is sorted (as a place to put all the radio kit I haven't bought yet :o )

What I basically did was, reclaimed a large garden shed in the back yard that I was just using for storage, stuck down a cheapy cheap laminate floor, ran a supply and sub-board for twelve (!) double power points, heating, ethernet, covered the lot with white deal panelling, and before I finished the garden off, ran 50 square copper linked to 6 x 6 foot earth roads, bonded to the earth at the sub-board I installed. My main house PC is here now with wi-fi from the router for the ones in the main house. Handy.

Antenna wise as regards, 2m/70cms, that's easy; vertical on the chimney of the house, and co-ax down to the shack. When it comes to HF though, I'm not sure what to do yet...

First a view of my dishes from the shack door, on top of the OLD shack
    dishes-w.png

Next go over to the old shack and look at radio aerials on the house roof.

    L to R: Three Aerials

    1) Near vertical approx 5 m to 6m wire as "whip" from Shack, insulated by nylon rope at top. Works 14MHz to 50MHz.

    2) 4.5m long 13dB gain 145MHz aerial on Motor drive

    3) Discone on 6ft pole at Chimney (25MHz to 1300MHz)
    roofAerials-w.png

Turning to left rising above 6ft wall is 2m/70cm (145MHz / 435MHz) colinear, Watson 300. Aerial pole at highest point of garden and must be over 45ft. The Watson 300 is about 10ft/3m long.
    colinear-w.png

You can see the support wire to right of the 20m/66ft end fed wire for 160m to 30m (1.8MHz to 10MHz). In the next photo you see the far "open" end of the aerial wire.

Looking out front of Radio Shack:
    tipperary-w.png
(If you look close you can see a dual band magmount aerial on the car)

    Now in the Shack:
    1) Electronic Assembly & parts
    assembly-w.png
On the bench are Bearcat/Uniden scanner good for 137MHz Weather Satellite, Alinco dual band 2m/70cm FM handie and VR500 all mode 100kHz to 1300MHz pocket communications receiver.

The "bluish" PIII heatsink has a "dead bug" style built experimental 100W MosFET PA (1.8MHz to 30MHz) @ 36V supply using cheap 2 Euro SMPSU transistors.

    2) Test & Repair area
    test-w.png

3)overview of radio half of shack
    radios-w.png

:: FT101ZD MkIII 160m to 10m Transeiver approx 100W. Connects to Computer for PSK31, SSTV, etc
