6 weeks ago i got my tongue pierced. i was told to come back to get a smaller one last saturday. i went back and it was replaced. this afternoon i was eating lunch and i realised that the top of the tongue bar was gone *think i swallowed it  *. anyways,as you can imagine i was pretty annoyed. i called the piercing studio in question this evening and was told that the piercing studio "is not a real shop" and that i couldnt expect a refund or replacement tongue piercing, despite the fact that it was clearly the piercists negligence that caused the bar to come off...
anyways, anyone have advice as to what i should do?

The law's on your side - the have not provided the service which they were contracted to do, you are entitled to a refund. A contract's a contract. It doesn't matter if you hire a guy to dig your garden or a piercer to do your tongue.

That's true, but balls can become loose easily- almost everyone I know with a tongue piercings has swallowed a ball at one stage, sometimes if it's just knocked the wrong way while eating. I replace about ten balls a year! If the ball was loose on Saturday it would have fallen out then. So I don't really see how a piercer is negligent if the ball fell out after three days...

yes,but it was fine until he replaced it. the training bar was perfectly ok,and he took it out and replaced it with a loose one that came out.

Seriously, this is so trivial. Balls come off these bars all the time. If he hadn't screwed it on properly it would have fallen off very quickly, not after 3 days. It probably came loose when you were playing with it, as everyone with a tongue piercing does. It's up to YOU to check it's on securely, when you're brushing your teeth, you should check this.

if you read my first post properly, you`ll see that it came out when i was eating. if it had came out maybe 6 months or a year later,i`d accept this as just bad luck and pay to have it done again. when i got the piercing,i wasn`t warned that it could fall out or that i should regularly screw it back in. in the aftercare leaflet i was given it actually said specifically NOT to play with the piercing as this can cause infection.i think i have the right to some kind of componsation, preferably the piercing done again free of charge

This kind of thing happens all the time its your responsibility to check its on tight enough,I've lost so much jewelery from this bit id never blame the piercer no matter how long after it was after getting it changed

If you buy a car and it runs out of fuel, or you lose your keys, would you expect a free replacement from the dealer because they didnt warn you it could happen?

Seriously, its not the piercers fault in any way whatsoever.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,095 ✭✭✭Fantasy_Suicide

I agree with these guys. I've lost about 20 balls from my tongue bar at this point. I constantly check to make sure the ball is on properly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭amazingemmet

If it came out on the same day it was changed I'd be inclined to give a repierce, refund. but anything after that and its not really the piercers fault

this is completely different to the situation with the car because if it runs out of fuel or you lose your keys you are directly responsible for those occurences. as i said, the ball fell out when i was eating,i wasn`t tampering with it. those things could be expected to happen with a car, they go without saying. i was not aware that the ball could fall out so easily-if i was i wouldn`t have gotten one in the first place. why is it that the first bar was fine,no problems whatsoever, then the second is loose and falls out soon after when i`d obviously have a problem getting it replaced, since it closes up so fast, and i`m not even left with a receipt? *and i repeat, not looking for full compensation, just to have my tongue pierced again and a replacement ball*

Still though, if you'd done your homework into the piercing, you'd have found that the balls come loose pretty easily. And even though you didn't touch it with your fingers, it still gets bumped and moved when you eat, or even just when you move your tongue, so obviously it's gonna keep coming loose.

fair enough, but i still think i should have been warned.and i`m still suspicous about the fact that the first bar was fine, which they then took and i presume are re-using it :p

so how do other people with tongue piercings deal with them? if they come loose every time you use your tongue *eating, etc;) * how are people holding onto them? pain in the ass it seems

I used to have the problem with smaller gauge toungues having to tighten every morn or so, but when i stretched it up its stopped coming loose so much so that I haven't needed to tighten it for years, its something I've noticed with larger sizes, Also not playing with it can help alot

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,095 ✭✭✭Fantasy_Suicide

Eh, mine tends to be fine. I loose one every so often, but I have piercings that are 1.6 anyways, so I can easily replace the ball on my tongue bar with one from another piercing I have till I get home. :)

its pretty obvious its gonna come loose from movement its not something the piercer should have to tell you,you should have at least one spare in case it happens anyway so you can just replace it no problem

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8 deirdre reidy

i was never given a precautionary one in case that happened,or advised to get one

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,900 ✭✭✭rannerap

its common sense to have one,i have about ten spares for each piercing i have, its why you should research a lot before getting a piercing

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,818 ✭✭✭Gauge

Everyone learns it the hard way at some point... if I had a euro for all the balls I've lost... now all my spare jewellery has no balls because I ended up using them on the jewellery I have in.

They're a couple of euro, handy to have.

still dont accept this.i should have been forewarned. why should i have to pay 100 euro instead of 50 to get a piercing?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,095 ✭✭✭Fantasy_Suicide

Look. It was your fault. This kind of thing happens all the time. Build a bridge.

forewarned of what? that a ball can come loose? is that not common sense, like it's not cemented onto the bar.
tbh, if i was a piercer and you came into the shop looking for a refund cos you swallowed a ball that came loose or something, i'd think you were ripping the piss and pretty much laugh in your face. kinda like i did when i read this thread.
you're not gonna get a refund, either go pay for it and learn from it, or get over it.

if this happened with any other product/service,i`d want a refund/replacement. this is no different.

If i was you id just let it go,you're obviously not going to get anywhere with it.you're very obviously not heavily involved in the body mod lifestyle or you wouldn't have even started this thread and done what any other person would and let it go

Exactly. You paid for a product with removable parts that required maintenance. You didn't maintain them. The shop is not responsible.

When I got my nose pierced the screw fell out in my sleep, but I didn't go back bitching to the piercer blaming him for not screwing it in properly- **** happens, just deal with it like the hundreds of other pierced people who lose balls on a daily basis.

I work in a piercing studio. If you came in demanding a refund for this I would calmly explain that it wasn't my fault and that it often happens with all piercings. A piercer will tighten the bar as much as possible, but it's hardly permanent, nor is it expected to be. You should tighten the ball after cleaning, eating, brushing your teeth, snogging, anything that moves your tongue alot and involves contact with something other than the inside of your mouth. No way is a piercer responsible for that. If you went into a jewellery shop and got a necklace and the sales assistant put it on, then a few days later it opened and you lost it, would you blame the sales assistant? These. Things. Happen.

Nah if they got scared we could just point them to E2 on bme :O

@edibility, and while your explain calmly to that person glen will be behind you with a realistic dildo hanging out his fly trying to get as much attention as possible by being overly inconspicous, this has happened
