"death makes angels of us all and
    gives us wings where
    we had shoulders smooth as
    ravens claws"

[Jim Morrison - excerpt from 'An American Prayer']

    and....

    "with hunger at her heels
    freedom in her eyes
    she dances on her knees
    pirate prince by her side...

    staring

    into

    the Hollow Idols Eyes"

[from Wild Child, by The Doors]

"Ever since Xzibit could spit it, I been on some pimp sh1t,
Approach every woman like a, potential mistress
Timed right, make sure that x stay tight
Cos tonight I might meet my next ex wife" Xzibit :D

Laugh every time, classically misogynist :D

    "The skyline was beautiful on fire, all twisted metal stretching upwards;
Everything washed in a thin orange haze.

I said: 'kiss me, you're beautiful - these are truly the last days'"

This monolith of everything that I have been is vacillated and aghast
The inexorable time has taught me once again that my features will change and macerate me

"Hear the chimes, did you know that the wind when it blows
It is older than Rome and all of this sorrow
See the new Pyramids down in old Manhattan
From the roof of a friend, I watched an empire ending
Heard it loud and long, the river's song
Time marching on, to a mad man's drum."

    - Bright Eyes, Cleanse Song

'Are teenage dreams so hard to beat
Everytime she walks down the street
    Another girl in the neighbourhood
Wish she was mine, she looks so good

I wanna hold her wanna hold her tight
Get teenage kicks right through the night'

    - teenage kicks , the undertones

    what a song

"White man came across the sea,
he brought us pain and misery,
    he killed our tribe,
    he killed our creed,
he took our game for his own need,
    we fought him hard,
    we fought him well,
out in the plains we gave him hell,
    but many died,
    too much for cree,
oh will we ever be set free?..."

Reggae artist?, Black civil rights song?, Native american protest poem? -No!
    Thats Iron Maiden's "Run to the hills"! heres another part of that song;

...Selling them whiskey and taking their gold,
enslaving the young and destroying the old...
...Murder for freedom - a stab in the back,
women and children are cowards; attack!"

Say what you want about their cheesiness- those lyrics are pure genius.

the fire looked at the meat
Said if I cook you the least you can do
Is lay there and be sweet"

Two headed boy, put on sunday shoes
And dance round the room to accordion keys
With the needle that sings in your heart
Catching signals that sound in the dark

There are so many badly interpreted version of those lyrics :)

    "he killed our creep" :p

and so many differ on this line too

"Women and children are cowards attack" "Women and children and cowards attack"

I always thought it was "Women and children, a cowards attack" :)

At the moment it has to be The killers - My List

"Don’t give the ghost up just clench your fist
You should have known by now you were on my list"

Also love Colin Hay's lyrics. Particularly this fantastic song (you might have heard it in scrubs) - Waiting for my real life to begin

"...When I awoke today, suddenly nothing happened
But in my dreams, I slew the dragon
And down this beaten path, and up this cobbled lane
I'm walking in my old footsteps, once again
And you say, just be here now
Forget about the past, your mask is wearing thin
Let me throw one more dice
I know that I can win
I'm waiting for my real life to begin"

"Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now"
    Bob Dylan-My Back Pages

"There's not even room enough to be anywhere, it's not dark yet...but it's getting there"
    Bob Dylan-Not Dark Yet

"There were ghosts in the eyes
Of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road
In the skeleton frames of burned out Chevrolets

They scream your name at night in the street
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet
And in the lonely cool before dawn
You hear their engines roaring on
But when you get to the porch they're gone
On the wind, so Mary climb in
It's a town full of losers
And I'm pulling out of here to win"
Bruce Springsteen-Thunder Road (well all of that song, actually)

My favourite lyrics come from the great American poet, and my favourite musician of all time, Bob Dylan, with this beautiful verse from his classic "Mr.Tambourine Man". Sorry, I know it's not 2-4 lines but I couldn't leave out part of the verse.:)

Then take me disappearin' through the smoke rings of my mind
Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves
Let me forget about today until tomorrow.

    Beautiful:cool:

I don't believe in an interventionist God
But I know, darling, that you do
But if I did I would kneel down and ask Him
Not to intervene when it came to you
Not to touch a hair on your head
To leave you as you are
And if He felt He had to direct you
Then direct you into my arms

nick cave - into my arms
