I'm out anyway..can't handle them anymore, Ray and Will are toxic together. Serious shakeup needed. Remember when they used to the the clap and cheer when a guest came on, slightly annoying but at least it was almost like fun!.

Maybe she took the advice in the headline. Most of the article is a puff piece about her child and fiance.

Her move is very strange as Darcy usually makes a fuss about someone moving from the show. You wouldnt expect something like when Jenny left but maybe some little acknowledgment

I thought I must have missed it when he mentioned Mairead but not one word? I know she's still at today fm so I wouldn't expect a big party like Jenny but not even an acknowledgement or a thank you to Mairead? Very strange, they always appeared to get on great. Something must have happened. Either way he should have wished her well and thanked her on air, she was there since day one wasn't she? I'm not a fan of Mairead's but kind of bad form not to say anything.

So is it just Will and Ray now? Will the new lady be on air like Mairead was or just behind the scenes? It doesn't work with just the two lads. Or maybe they'll just have Ray on his own like Tubridy etc.

He thanked five members of staff at the end of his show today so there's at least six people working on it at present

If anything its a new male personality they need in the studio, cos Ray and Will are obviously pandering to Mammy listeners judging by todays show. I am also starting to think that when Ray is all grumpy on air its because he is having his period.

Before 10am there was the woman who was struggling with her kids in the mornings. It led to a deluge of suggestions from Ray and Will before the inevitable texts from listeners with all their "look how good a mammy I am cos I do this and it works" texts.

I managed to miss between 10 and 11.30 and when I heard again it from the author of kids books and again we had Ray fawning over her and saying how much he loved reading books to his kids at night. Followed by the inevitable texts from listeners with their "my child can recite all the books", "my child wont go to sleep without the book being read".

Now somebody is probably going to tell me that between 10 and 11.30 I missed the discussions on tool sheds, football and beer.

    Said it before

I'd like to have seen Dermot & Dave getting the 9am to 12pm slot and move Ray into the 2:30 to 4:30 slot. He'd be alright there....and that's where a man now in his 50's more belongs anyway

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,048 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

Used to enjoy RD, I agree with other posters, it needs a shake-up - and not just Jenny and Mairead leaving to be replaced by nobody. Its become a pretty tired setup now.

The problem is lack of alternative. Nearly every other show in the 15-middle age demographic is awful.

The only shows I would truly rate as excelling in their field are Morning Ireland and Off The Ball.

Look both you, I and everyone else on here knows that Darcy is going nowhere unless it's on his own steam as he's creaming tubs in the jnlr.
So my schedule now is Dempsey till 9, Tubs and Jenny Green till 12, D&D and Cawley till 4:30 and then I'm out.

The show got most of the fun sucked out of it and turned just about the same time Facebook did, and for the exact same reason. People have to realised nobody cares about their kids as much as they do.

Between Ray and texts it sometimes feels like this.

....... You missed a phone interview with the excellent Rose of Tralee, Maria Walsh, who was up early in Philadelphia to talk to Ray, and who ran (polite and engaging) rings round him. She's got a great personality and, to be fair to Ray, he didn't try to score points and it was an enjoyable piece.

It really, really does. Have human beings always been like this or did we manage to procreate without a fuss a hundred years ago?

She ran rings around him - I assume so he asked how long she had been running, what kind of sports bra she wears, if she feels better after starting running and go on, admit it, it was the Rays 5k which made her take up running wasn't it:D

Is this whole boasting about your kids "my kids are so important/my kids are great/my kids blah blah brilliant" a new thing in society in the last few years or has it always been going on?

I'd guess it's always been going on, only now we have more outlets for it. I mean, in the '70s people just bothered their family and people they actually saw in person with stories about the kids. Today people will do that, then post 1,000 pictures on FB, minute by minute updates on little Shoniqua sitting on the toilet for the first time ("lol, something just plopped! #pottytraining #plop #poo"), upload 50 pictures to instagram and then finish off the day by documenting it all on Tumblr (disclaimer: I'm not exactly sure what Tumblr is, I just assume it's a blogging thing).

People have a tendency to over share these days with every thing they do being documented online.

I was at a concert earlier this year where the couple next to me spent the whole time either sitting recording the entire concert or texting/emailing other people before and after the concert, never even talking all the time i was there.

I didn't even realise they were together till i saw them walk to the luas after the concert.

I always though Tumblr was a porn website of girls who forgot to put their clothes on

stopped listening to ray darcy about 5 years ago, when I gave up working in the building trade, iwas back at college and just seemed to be listening out for a bit more in depth politics/current affairs stories, with the fallout of the economic crisis and stuff also went away from reading any sort of red top tabloid and started religiously buying the irish indo. well when I started listening to radio 1 and newstalk I couldn't switch back without being seriously infuriated with ray and his nonsense, by the way im only 28. anyway bit shocked to hear that mairead farrall has left that show but she did seem a bit desperate to get media attention for the last few years, but it didn't seem to be getting her anywhere near big time TV she probarbly needs to be more journalistic or serious to get a decent number, to be honest I don't think she would be capable of an ella mcsweeny type role.

That pressing a button on your phone during a quiz as a buzzer was grand back when most would have been calling from a landline, but its so awkward for callers now who are using mobile phones!

Listening today and some woman texts in about how some guy smiled at her in the bank and what should she do!!! Like can any normal person imagine being in that situation and thinking Jesus I dunno what that could mean ,a stranger smiled at me I will text Ray Darcy and ask for advice! Think about that for a minute now just let it sink in, can anybody here tell me they would do that?

Then a deluge of texts offering advice on what to do, he smiled, that's all a smile! Jesus Christ had he dropped the hand maybe it would be a story!

I am more and more convinced will is making up the texts

I listened to a bit of the show today for the first time in a long time. I kind of thought that woman was looking for advice about moving on after separation. The smile was just what prompted her to think that she was possibly ready to move on.

That was one painful interview with the Canadian Library employee today.

one quick question. Whats the problem between Ray and Enda Kenny? Ray never passes an opportunity to get a dig in and seems to go out of his way to do it. I'm starting to like Enda now!

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,587 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Loved Ray saying that McIlroy earning 10 mill if he wins the next tournament was just unbelievable/crazy.

Nearly as crazy as someone who is paid a couple of hundred grand a year to pontificate every day on the radio in what must be one of the easiest jobs out there.

At least McIlroy is a world class sportsman at the top of his game, as opposed to just an average DJ of many tens of thousands worldwide. You could pluck a nobody off the street to do Ray's job for €30,000 per year, but not the same with rory's job.

Agree, the Canadian lad did not want to be there, terribly awkward. I'd go easy on Ray for it tho, nothing worse that an interviewee like that.

I think Ray made a stupid comment a few elections ago that if Enda and Fine Gael got into power that he would leave the country, well that happened but unfortunately we still have Ray on our shores, just another uneducated, un researched empty comment in the search for publicity.
