If money was no object - what would be the best set up possible, today (Including extras, like monitor, speakers, etc.) and its rough cost estimation? :)

    8 hard drives? I doubt I'd ever need more than 2 :p

And for a Rig of that calibre, what kind of fps can you expect off... say, Oblivion [outdoors] on Ultra settings ?

    400 million fps id say.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,504 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

Its immaterial what FPS you get above the refresh rate/response time of your screen (im guessing this machine would have an LCD). Also, small changes in higher frame rates are nearly imperceptible to the naked eye rather than small changes at lower frame rates.

Spending 11k sterling on a PC is pretty sad. The best setup in my opinion would be the best rig for about 2500k.

The question was asked...I merely answered. No one would ever buy this spec...but Vadim would build it!
I really hope that no-one thought that was a serious build...I wonder about people's sense of humour sometimes!
    LINKY as requested.

And the 'Free tee shirt' bit also made me chuckle :D

Going for a God-Box the 8800GTX to two in SLI is definitely better the HD 2900XT is trades blows with the 8800GTS 640 not the 8800GTX which easily dispatches it.

Given time ATI might be able to work out the problems but it's not something I would recommend at this time given the raw state of the drivers.

4GB of RAM isn't all that useful to gamers 2GB under 32-bit is really the optimal amount any more is diminishing returns.

For about €5800 this is what I would go for with no plans for overclocking or going totally nuts on burning money either.
    Case: Antec P180
    PSU: Seasonic 700W
GPU: GeForce 8800GTX - get 2 for SLI
    CPU: Core 2 X6800
DVDRW: NEC SATA & Samsung SATA
HD1: WD Raptor - get 2 for RAID 0 or just JBOD
    HD2: WD 500GB - get 2 for storage/backup.
OS: Vista 32-bit retail or XP.
Mobo: nForce 650i - why because it uses passive cooling and no real difference in having dual x8 slots for SLi and x16.
    RAM: 2GB of Corsair DDR-2 800
    Sound: Creative X-Fi Platinum
    Speakers: Logitech 5.1 Z-5500 HTX/DTS
Key/mouse: Wireless combo Microsoft laser 6000 or Logitech MX5000
Monitor: Dell 30" 3007 widescreen display

As far as I'm concerned anything else is just excess or going to offer very small improvements - again no overclocking taken into account.

Its a benchmarking system for the dx10 game

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,757 ✭✭✭8T8

Those Call of Juarez benchmarks are cooked by AMD they benchmarked a version of the game that doesn't work with GeForce 8

For reference NVIDIA has been supplying these as well with a driver 158.47 and build of the game that does work with their hardware as you can see they easily leapfrog the HD 2900XT a little disappointing if true as superior DX10 performance was one of the few bright spots for the 2900 series.

GeForce 8 GTX is still king of the hill.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,560 ✭✭✭Slutmonkey57b

Am I reading that right? Wow - for an extra, what, 300 quid you get 1.5 WHOLE FPS performance boost? Goooo the GTX! King of the hill! w00t!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,757 ✭✭✭8T8

You mean the Ultra yeah everyone knows that's a waste of money more of an experiment by NVIDIA to see how many people with more money the sense would actually bite.

There is a dedicated thread for the Radeon HD 2900XT in the graphics forum for any more chatter on that topic.
