Had 'civil procedure' today. My ass was verily saved by one easy question which overlaps with another module so I was prepared for it.

Law of Contract tomorrow and then it's **** you UCD for another few months!

Finished this morning. Then me and the other first engineers celebrated by shooting eachother with paintballs. Weird, I'm not a new college student anymore, I'm just a college student. I've lost my new.

1st year engineers don't lose the "new" until September. Until then we're allowed get annoyed by ye screaming your heads off in the lap top area while we're trying to study in the Chem room. I was told by a guy in the year ahead of me in 1st year that he was allowed be mean to us cos we were 1st years and then as soon as I got into 2nd year he became one of the nicest people I know!

Plus I don't think you feel like a true engineer until 2nd year either. When your hours double, your reports quadruple and you debate bothering to leave the building cos all you've got free is an hour that could just be spent sitting and talking to Joan. Wait til them days!

On a positive note, I finished today. Nothing worse then finishing on a bum note... can't say anything but it was just rank. We only needed about 30% of it right to pass... now just getting that 30%...

Irish history module went so much better than I expected. :)

Oh, and my friend saw someone cheat. Bastard got away with it too.

Really??Thought the questions were asked in a real round about way!Could have been worse though.

On another note, have you any idea how much those essays during the year were worth?I missed the first one because it was never posted on blackboard. My own fault really!:(

    Oh,and cheatings bold!;)

I think they were 25% each (the exam being 50%).

Aspects of Financial Theory tomorrow......anyone else tackling this hellish subject?

Its not the most difficult in the world but I have a feeling she's gonna screw us over (á la the MCQ)

Thank you please Edward Coleman for my Louis IX question!!

What did people think of the Crusades? I was down to the wire on time but it looks like I may have been lucky, the fourth didn't come up as predicted and the first crusade q didn't look pretty though I didn't give it much attention?

    Albigensian and Louis, giggidy giggidy.

3 down, 4 to go. Will this hell ever end?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,151 ✭✭✭beanyb

The lack of a direct question on what actually happened during the 1st crusade pissed me off! But the Albigensian question was sweet. I'd learnt the second crusade, and the question was a bit mean, but I bullsh*tted my way through it!

3 down... 3 to go. I dont think it will ever end!

thought the paper was fair enough, did the albignesian crusade question was fine had studied second and third crusade well so answered second crusade question was pretty much a question on the outcomes of that crusade i answered along with tiny bits on wendish crusade and spain. disappointed no direct question on first crusade came up but fcuk it its over now. only one more exam to go in ucd, roll on next thursday!

    Moi.

First exam Ive sat. Wasnt too bad, wish there had been a calc question in section C (since Ive oh so little theory) though Id learnt empirical tests of the capm for Inv & Port on Monday so I stuck that into Q7.

There was a lot on Options which suited me, I find them very straight forward for some reason; just like genetics in LC biology. Everyone hated it but to me its so logical :meh:

Typical, save the best till last!

Quinn subjects are total crap anyway, we had Chinese lecturers for cross cultural who (im not being rude or anything) just couldn't speak proper English or understand questions put to them in class!

Contrary to my previous post.....Aspects was fine, left out options swaps etc and wasn't punished for it.....

one more to go on Monday and then I finished Business and Law....BAM!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,885 ✭✭✭Stabshauptmann

The problem with B&L is (if I understand this correctly) you dont do modes and just pick and match subjects as you choose.
    Is that true?

Thats what Ive been told though it seems rather strange, you could end up with some daft combinations or just pick all the easy subjects (which end up being of little use).

You've choices would be rather constrained, there was a lot on the paper on options

    Yes. It's not a problem.

You could do that, yes. And yes, they may not be of much use. But why would anyone choose to do that?

If you have the options of any subjects out of a long list (limited by matriculation and timetabling), you can pick those that are most suited to the career you are pursuing. If we were, say, 15-year-olds, then there might be an issue that we pick subjects just to have an easy life. Most people in B&L (and elsewhere in the college) have more sense than that.

I actaully think this is the happiest day of my life, never have to look at aspects of financial theory again- saaaaavage. It was alot easier than I thought it would be. Didn't use my calculator once which was pretty weird but I'm not complaining. TheVan you know who you have to thank when you get your result for aspects and not an N/A. Ha ha!

Don't think I'd call that a problem being able to choose different subjects from different areas your interested in. I think it's a plus

we still have core subjects which we have to do. others you have to do because of future career options, like hullaballo said i.e. equity and trusts, not two of my favourite subjects but i had to do them because i want to become a solicitor. they were optional subjects. i agree with justcoz, its a definite bonus.

    Maybe, but I wasn't

No problem at all, its great....in law there are so many subjects you can give yourself a broad legal education or focus.

You could pick easy subjects....but employers will see right through that.

I dont want to take the thread off topic, Bcomm Vs BBLS is something thats debated a lot on this board I think, but I really dont know that much about BBLS. Do they make it clear to you want careers require what subjects? Do you get a list of the subjects broken down by Bcomm mode?

I'm lucky enough to have a job waiting for me when I graduate, but I know that if I hadnt done a stream line mode (if instead I had a bit of marketing, finance, HR, accounting etc) I wouldnt have gotten it. A good part of the interview revolved around the courses Im studying (banking and finance mode).
Choice is good, the BBLS gives you more options and for longer, but in that particular interview, specialisation was seen as a strong advantage by the interviewers.

There were points during the past 3 years where I wasnt sure if not doing BBLS was the right decision. I know in second year in particular I was jealous of the 4 yr aspect of BBLS. But what I can say for sure is that I am happy with the BComm, and would recomend it. I wouldnt like to be comming back to university again next year (another year like second year would be cool, but the work load this year was more intense, obviously enough) and since I got my first prefence job the degree has served its purpose and I dont need to worry about it ever again.

What I should worry about perhaps is that I have 3 exams left; Mon, Tue, Thur; and havent begun studying for any of them :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,010 ✭✭✭besty

I'm 4 BBLS too. With the benefit of hindsight and reports from friends, I could literally recommend a tailor made choice of subjects that would be ridiculously easy. Probably not an advisable thing to do but serioulsy, some of the subjects are infantile (ish).

    Well done JustCoz!

Two more to go, but I just can't find myself arsed at all. I've done seven already. Finals.

Getting a bit numb and burned out at this stage, less than 60 hours left of college.

I have 1 more exam and I can't find any of my notes from it. I'm not too stressed since I have everything on the bibliography but I'd really rather be finished now.
I still can't believe I'm nearly finished college. Come on MA! Otherwise I've no idea what I'm up to.
