Painting cork tiles, anybody?

Got these 1/8th inch, unsealed cork tiles for the bathroom floor. Thought I might paint them alternately black and white, and lay them corner to corner, diamond pattern. Just plain brown cork is a bit boring, then varnish over the paint for protection. Anybody varnished over paint? Reccommendations, experience and advice,…

Anybody varnished over paint? Reccommendations, experience and advice, even where beter to ask. thanks.

P.S.The tiles are from "Nicoline" haven't been to their site yet. Will google it now.
