There are many options out there. Below is a link. One of these should be able to do the job without you having to put your hand in your pocket. If you try one or a few let us know how it works (good or bad) out for our own future reference.

You could buy a two phono to minijack cable for a couple of quid. Audio out of DVD player on phono into line in on minijack on your computer. Play the DVD, record the audio directly to your PC. Many free audio recorders. Try Audacity for starters.
Or you could just play the DVD on your PC if you have a DVD drive and use a free program like MP3myMP3 - available from download.com to capture the audio from the DVD.

Lastly you might be able to rip the DVD with yet another free program(!!) DVDshrink and rename the audio file in the Audio TS folder as a WAV file by going into My Computer - tools menu - folder options- view - untick 'hide extensions for known file types. This way you'll have the best quality audio of the file as your not reencoding it and not converting from analog to digital etc etc.
