Tips on selecting a small car with auto gearbox?

    Hello,

    I'm thinking of getting a car with an auto gearbox. I like small cars (drive an Opel Corsa now and the narrowness is convenient, not to mention the economy!). So I'd like to select an auto of the small kind - but which ones are good?

    I am looking at a price of about 8k (max would be 10k) so it's probably something like 2003.

    I want reliability, proper auto operation (no rollbacks on hills etc), and preferrably a decently sized boot. The last point seems to rule out the Micra and possibly the Yaris. (The Yaris Verso would be great but they are not easy to come by!)

    So - which auto gearboxes are good, and what car should I be looking for?

    P.S. And specifically, is the Daihatsu Sirion any good?

    Just thought I'd bump this cos you're asking quite a lot, 8 grand, small yet with roomy boot.

    1.3 Mitsubishi Mirage - hatchback or coupe. Have owned both and the boot in the coupe is huge (almost as big as the one in my current Passat).

    Granted they're older than you want (97-00 generally) but I never had a day's trouble with either of mine.

    Actually I could get an Opel Corsa, Ford Fiesta, or Daihatsu Sirion with all that I want including auto gearbox, good boot and price. But are their auto gearboxes any good? And are they reliable in general?
