Does anyone know what "From Customs" means, in An Post online tracking system language?

I know they can be slow to update the site, but I just want to know what that status means. It's been "From Customs" since Friday (11th May). The package is a digital camera from an online store in New York and it's to be delivered to me in Dublin 2.

Going to London tomorrow evening, so I'm hoping and praying to receive it today or tomorrow!

It means that they have taken delivery of the parcel from customs. You should get it today or tomorrow. Because its been through customs expect to pay the VAT for it.

Thanks Beano. With regard to paying duty on it... I've done that before with UPS. However, since it was being delivered to my work address, they wouldn't release the package (i.e. to the receptionist) until I came down and paid for it.

Do you know if An Post may do the same? Or do they leave the package and invoice later? Because I'm to and from the office all the time, and it'll break my heart if I'm out for 10mins and it gets sent back to Portlaoise or somewhere.

With An Post it's cash before delivery, so you'll need to pay before they leave it off. If you're not around, they'll probably leave a note for you to collect it at your local sorting office, it won't be sent back to Portlaoise or anywhere else. If you know the number to the local sorting office then give them a call and ask them if that package has bee sent out today. They should be able to tell you if it has from the tracking number.

The postman won't accept cash. It has to be either a cheque or a money order.

So, presumabley there won't be a problem with them leaving it at the office, in that case...? I mean, a cheque wouldn't clear anyway... Right?

I've always paid them in cash.

It will be payment on delivery. The Postman is not supposed to take cash, but may do so at his own risk.

No, they'll want the payment before leaving the item. You could sign a blank cheque and leave it with the receptionist (if you trust them that is) for when it does arrive. That's if they are willing to do this for you of course. The postman will take cash too, but he'll need the exact amount as he probably won't have any change on him.

Cool, thanks lads. No sign of it today yet, so I guess I'll just be sure to be in early tomorrow with lots of spare change ;)

Didn't want to start a new thread either...

I've found the An Post tracking to be almost completely useless, but at the moment that is the least of my worries...

    I'm absolutely furious

I am trying to run a small business and have been waiting on specialist printer inks to come in from the US.
Today, I receive a Revenue letter saying that they are holding my package (wtf!?) at the An Post Centre in Knockmitten.

They want duty and VAT (€60) for the contents -fair enough- but do you think they would deliver it along with the relevant bill? NO, they take the time to send me a letter, saying they'll send it out when they receive my cheque or postal order (NO Laser or credit cards accepted).
    Now that's service.

Just another little perk that makes one love living in this country.

    </rant>

Would that not be down to Revenue? An Post can't deliver it until customs release it although they usually do release these and get a cheque/money order on delivery.
