Can anyone point me in the right direction to be able to get into the count centre in Dublin for the election?

    Thanks.

    Is it not the RDS?

I hear its going to be in the point as the RDS is already booked that weekend.

Also again i stress i dont know, i just hear that you need tickets or a pass to get in.

I was just wondering if that is the case and if anyone can point in the direction to get one...

You get a pass from your local branch there issued so many each, you can still go in without one but you can't access all areas.

    Local branch?

Im not connected with any poltical party.

    I'm just an interested citizen...

Interested citizens aren't allowed afaik. The tickets are for party workers who will aid the count - tally people etc and argue over spoiled votes. If you know anyone in the media or any parties give them a shout.

    Em.

Can you explain that one to me? How can party workers aid in a count?

I understand tallies but that surely wouldnt account for all the people.

I'm working on a polling station and i had to sign something to the effect that i have not furthered anyones campaign... as in i havent been involved with any party or candidate.

I assume the counters of the votes must do like wise.

Actually i supposed a better question is. Who organises the count?

Dublin city council or the returning officer for which area?

<edit> i mean the dublin area one...

each party will have a rep at each box being opened, the results will be then submitted to the tally people FF usually have an organised bunch of guys on laptops punching in the details. The count is not really a spectators day out, people are usually at milling around getting things done arguing over spoilt votes, tallying results, forcasting the outcome, getting percntages from each box - and of course hoisting their respective candidate aloft when duely elected!

I'm tallying...I hope to God it doesn't take 60 hours like the last time. I need to sleep before I go to the States Monday week and My dad's 50th in on Saturday week.

Pat Kenny said it was the studio used for the late late show.

    It will be the RDS.

    Other counts...

Meath West will be counted in the Simonstown GAA centre in Navan.
Meath East will be counted in Warrenstown Agri College, close to Dunshaughlin.

Note that the RDS is the count centre ONLY for the Dublin city constituencies.

Count centres for the Dublin county constituencies can be found at:

Surely not all of the Dublin constituencies are going to the RDS?

    Drat.

Stupid public transport in Kildare.. most things have to go through Dublin.

    Anyway re the Dublin count.

Members of the public can apply for passes.

    Just contact the office.

    Just as an Update.

I managed to get one as a member of the public without any issue.

Just a quick question how did you get the job at the polling station? I looked into it but had no luck getting any info what so ever. Cheers.

I just found out the details of the returing officer for the county council and fired in a short letter about a month ahead of the election.

All they really wanted to know.

1)Was i able to stay at the polling station from 7am to 10pm withoutleaving the building? (Yes)

    2)Can i drive? (No)

    3)PPS Number.

I suppose it did help that i have a bit of experience since i was a returning officer in college and organised elections there but to be honest anyone with half a braincell can do it.

Damn wish I'd known it was that easy. Well I'll keep it in mind for the next one cheers.
