Get the camera out, a Chinook and Blackhawk buzzing south Dublin at the moment.

  • Registered Users Posts: 657 ✭✭✭Benster

Those 2 Chinooks in the photos flew over Finglas and landed in, I think, the Phoenix Park. Same time as the Chinook and 2 Blackhawks were circling southside.

LOL , was in the Boot Inn carpark for 20 minutes , then airport "police" put a stop to it . Its worse now , the Gardai are putting down cones all along the road so anyone going up should try and park in the carpark of the pub .

The 3 Chinooks and 2 Blackhawks were running their engines for ages. Then 2 Chinooks moved off to the west apron and the 2 Blackhawks and 1 Chinook moved onto 16/34 and took off at 16:36. We all got so snap happy we didn't even notice the 2 Chinooks taking off from the west apron.

Missed the C17s leaving by 15 mins, but heard them approaching from Howth before midday. Wasn't facing the approach but they made such a distinctive and different sound that I went to the other side of the house and got confirmation.

Its a great time for spotters over the last week or so.

All those football charters, at least 3 C-17s so far, 2 C-5s today, 4 CH-47's and the 2 VH-60's, with the hope of seeing the VC-25 (Air Force 1) on Monday.

And we may see some interesting civilian movements this day next weekend too.

I think that's stupid, unless they think the guys with the lense's are hiding a bazooka or something! I was looking forward to seeing more great photos on monday too :(

Well it definitely not a decision to make people happy. Why not allow pedestrain access to the mound with 2-3 Gardai to keep an eye on them....

There was also a go around from a Aer Lingus Airbus a few minutes earlier but I missed it due to watching a Traffic Corps Biker looking at where I was parked...

Because it's just bloodymindedness for the sake of it, the airport police/Gardai should take notes from Manchester Airport Police and encourage a good relationship with aviation fans who'd feckin' police the perimeters for them! That'd be too bloody sensible though.
