Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

We're on a European tour for the month of August, starting off in Amsterdam and finishing in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Looking at festivals and gigs, we might a day or two at the end of Sziget but we'll miss 10 days Off, Exit etc...

Anyone have any advice on some must-visit clubs or gigs and festivals on in August?

    In Amsterdam go to http://www.escape.nl/ & http://www.melkweg.nl/voorpagina.jsp
both definitely recommended clubs, never been to Dubrovnik so maybe someone else can help you out there.

Ah yeah. We'll be hitting the likes of Prague, Budapest, Bratislava, Berlin, Leipzig as well. We might try and fit the last two days of Sziget in, but I'd like to know all the options for techno and electro gigs and good clubs and the like.

As regards amsterdam, you seem to know your stuff - what are the best cafes to hit? I've been warned to stay away from the Grashopper and bulldog by a few ppl

Looks like what that LIFE festival is trying to be actually... Doesn't look quite like the scene we'd be into, but cheers for the headsup. It's more that I'm holding out hope that we'll find Chris Liebing or trentemoeller or Alex Gopher playing some club or that there's some (more commercial) festival that I've overlooked. Digitalism are playing @ Frequency in Salzburg - it's in August and not too far from my route - but they're the only dance act I've seen confirmed.

Yeah ive been to the Dam 4 times so know the score ;) yes stay away from the Grasshopper & bulldog Cafes, usually populated by drunk English who are loud and obnoxious, not what you want when your completely stoned on weed, here are some recommended coffeeshops, have fun, and go easy on the weed man, you will soon realise how monged it can get you ;)

Cheers for that man, fantastic stuff! There's 8 of us going for the first time, with a few seasoned smokers in the group, staying for 4 days as a kickstart to the eurotour so we'll definitely be hitting those. Don't suppose you know of any (cheap) hostels?

Looks like everyones up for Nature one. Superb lineup with Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Carl Cox, Paul Van Dyk, Judge Jules, Liebing, Jeff Mills, Adam beyer.... Really puts in perspective how diabolical irish gigs are. Only 60 quid for whats basically the techno and house olympics. :D

recommend this hostel mate, great time here, met some cool people, spent a few evenings talking about life, love and the universe and anything else that anyone wanted to talk about as time passed us by in a haze of smoke, all very chilled indeed...definitely recommended.

Fu*k this all this talk about the Dam ive not been since 2000 definitely a weekend there is on the cards this year, love the Dam.

The Flying Pig Uptown Hostel Amsterdam

This is located in the centre of Amsterdam in the midst of the city nightlife. You are close to all of Amsterdam's whit the Vondelpark as your backyard. Kick off your night in the hostel bar. It is the best place to meet other Backpackers, there are regular theme-parties and we sell the cheapest beer in town! Then move to the Leidseplein (square) where you can refuel at one of the many pubs or coffee shops. bring your evening to a climax in the pop temple the Paradiso or in the famous Melkweg.

In short, the Flying Pig Uptown is a great jump-off point for you to explore all of Amsterdam’s naughty secrets & many beauties!

Oh and make sure you go into Vondelpark if your staying here it's right beside it, lovely on a sunny day as you sit back and skin up.

Used to a seasoned smoker myself mate, tell your mates they might be seasoned smokers but until they've smoked this sh*t in the Dam they haven't smoked at all, be prepared to get completely wasted on high strength quality weed,i recommend white widow, silver haze or AK67... have a good one.

Few of us doing the same thing ourselves, finishin up in amsterdam in August this time tho! ;)
We're hittin Creamfields, Poland start of July but i'd
keep an eye out for Love Parade coz they're talkin about havin it at a later date this year in a dif city...so that could well be in august somewhere :)

Jonny knows his stuff anyway, flying-pig is a good hostel and silver-haze
    will knock your socks off!
As for a good place to smoke, i'd highly (no pun intended :p) recommend here:

    http://www.rookies.nl/

All sorts off 'house' bongs to try out and staff are pretty friendly.
Defo agree with the rest stayin away from the bulldog (Union Jacks all over the place says enough!)

And if ur lookin for something to do (other than gettin f*kd up) u should check this improv comedy show out:

    http://www.boomchicago.nl/en/

Laughed my head off at this although that silver-haze/space-muffins may have had a helping hand :D
    Enjoy it anyway!

I used to live in Amsterdam. Check out the Dampkring Cannabis Cafe. They have the nicest smoke in town and some of the nicest people. Best thing is that alot of the smoke is organic and grown by smaller farmers rather than mass produced . If you're up to it try the Dutch Moonshine but don't say I didnt warn you!

Why would you want to drink alcohol when your in a coffeeshop?I done it once and got far far too wasted, very strong cannabis and alcohol doesn't mix at all, stick to water, tea/coffee or juice.

    Lightweights:p

Also Cremers (bar) and the Paard(club) in den hagg.

Cremers always has some off the best tunes your everlikely to hear, 3pints for a fiver during happyhour.

The paard was one of the best clubs in Europe
