Maybe not old enough to be a classic, but certainly rotten enough

Was it crash damaged or just vandalised? Very surprising an AE86 was neglected like that :/
Especially a UK/Irish one like that, they're getting rare now - only about 100 still on the road in the UK

That's because most if them ended up over here to be diffed to death.
An original non modified one would be a nice car.

In fairness, it way just neglected. All the rot you see could all have been prevented. Some people.........

That one is / was imported

My brother is currently restoring his own one, I think its 87 or 86. Its been completely stripped and all rust cut out and plated. 90% of the way there now, engine is back in and running, just some of the interior left to fit

Pity he's not keeping it original though, got a CD player in it and aftermarket CL and electric windows. Would have been nice to keep it factory spec.

    Peugeot wouldn't have a quarter-light, doesn't it look a lot like a VW Derby ?

It certainly does look like the Derby shown, but the headlamp on the rusty car is rectangular.

    Regards Rugbyman.

Derby it is so, rear lights, bumper and the shape of the rear side window give it away.

done "a bit" of research, presume that one would have the 4.2 straight six jaguar engine?

That looks like an early one too.. Lovely cars if cared for, savagely expensive to restore if not.

The last car to use the XK engine IIRC.

Yes.. in fact the car was 100% a *Jaguar* but was badged as a Daimler.

Why so expensive - is it cause there's so much car to restore?

The panels are expensive and rust eats away where you can't see it. AFAIK nothing bolts on.. it's all welded and lead loaded.

The mechanics are good though (brakes might be complex).. which is why many probably ended up as bangers!

I'd love one.. but I suspect you'd have to spend €10K to get one worth keeping.. or that will last. One day when the lotto comes up.......
