Thanks, I'm gone a bit rusty on my Hillmans, does anyone know the years of the cars? 4809 YI and 93-9 ZU, (I can't make out the third figure).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,003 ✭✭✭bijapos

4809 YI would be late 70

    93?9 ZU would be June/July 74

Is there a https://www.cartell.ie/ equiv to check these?

    I use this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_Ireland

It seems to be accurate, and a bit of guesswork as well.

Sorry; I'm not questioning the dates; just would like to know if the cars are on record.

Sorry, I've no idea if they are on record somewhere, I just use Wiki to guess the date of first registration here.

I've been wondering what they were for years pass them all the time! They actually move around the yard sometimes, ie change positions, I've never seen them run though

I got a new phone for Christmas with a decent camera, so I have been taking pictures all over the place :D

This is an old RWD Starlet which I happened upon yesterday. Its not really that rusty which is surprising...

This old JCB 3CMk2 was beside it, hasn't moved in a while either!

That RWD Starlet would be worth a decent bit of money if it was done up.

Yea it probabaly would, its well stripped out though , The guy that owns it has / had a perfectly original Irish one too, think its actually for sale on DD atm.

The clue to its relative lack of rust is the sticker on the rear window - Tuff-Kote Dinol - an aftermarket rustproofing product/procedure, similar to Ziebart. Lots of modern pre-classics that attend classic car shows have stickers like these ;)

Is the 3-Series crashed? I loved that era of the 3-Series. it's sad to see a good 89 car crapped like that. It's not that old!

Aint crashed but alot of rust on it in structural parts
To the best of my knowledge the owner used it as a donor before scrapping it
