I came across a mk1 escort Irish reg 3 door at the rear of a small independent garage on main street, Ballycotton, Co Cork today.

I spoke to the garage owner and said the neighbour across the road owned it.

It has been parked a good while outside and the salt air wont do it any favours.

He said it had a 1600cc and it was original.

    1600cc ? A Mexico / TwinCam / RS1600 ???

He said Mexico, It was HZV reg I think 1971.

I was going to get a photo but could not get enough time to take it as i was been watched.

I suspect if I pushed for a price there might be chance as the car is outside on someone else's land and there are no garages across the road to store it

But I am a VW man so not interested but like the Irish reg.

HZV ? 70/71 in Dublin was ZA / ZC /ZD so it's likely an import reg'd in 85/86 just as imports were allowed and before the old reg system ended. I reckon the Ford fans here are already on the road to Ballycotton :D:D

I don't think these have been posted before. Both in a driveway in a plush Dublin suburb. I know that they've been there for at least a year, probably much longer.
The sills on the BMW are completely shot. The Minor isn't too bad though.

These were one of my first posts a few years ago. Sad to say they are both gone.

The moggie disappeared during the week. The BMW was being dragged onto a tow truck this evening. Had a quick word with the driver. Scrapheap bound I'm afraid...

Was that accross from a large hotel in D4 by any chance? - I think I saw a Minor and BMW there in June, but didn't have a camera. I figured I would see them on this thread before long. Sad that they're to be scrapped :(

Edit: And I just noticed that its my 400th post :-)

Bit like HongKong / Chinese dual plates - but they fix both plates on the car. Veg oil should be quite possible on older tech engines :)

Apparently 25% diesel 75% Veg oil according to them in the know,;). That's the main reason i bought it tbh.

The 2002 had been parked up since 1991, in a sorry old state. Beyond repair.

Nice. Wonder if it runs better on Extra Virgin than Mazola or Lidl own brand :D:D

Handy if you lived beside a chipper

It's still sad that a valuable source of parts for 2002 owners has been most likely sent to the crushed! I can guarantee that if the owner had bothered to put the car up on ebay or donedeal or something similar they would have gotten more than scrap value and the car wouldn't have been a total waste either.

Don't panic I can reassure you it won't be going to any crusher!

I actually bought this abandoned classic today, 190D,

First thing that crossed my mind when I read 190D was "Veg oil heaven".

A mate of mine used to run his Golf on veg oil a few years back until prices jumped up to diesel pump prices, always raised a few eyebrows filling up in Tesco's or Lidl's car park! :D

If you can get a supply of used veg oil it is great value motoring but there is a bit of work involved in filtering and de-watering it. If you catch the bug for processing it there are also some home heating boilers that can run on veg as well.

Lots of threads on boards with all the info you need. Well wear.

There is a chap in Kilcoole who sells a veg oil / diesel mix but isnt a whole lot cheaper that diesel. He filters 'chipper' oil, mixes with diesel and adds petrol to the mix. I have a 1990 VW Diesel which runs very well on it without any 'funny' smells or huge loss in MPG.

I have a friend who runs a VW diesel as his daily drive and he went into Lidl and filled his tank with cooking oil at 90 cent a litre or something but didnt have enough diesel in the tank and conked out a few miles up the road!!

I was looking up a supplier but didn't come up with anything yet. Maybe Musgraves sell 5 gallon drums of veg oil? I'll have a look on Monday. Thanks for the info though. I suppose it would run on biofuel too, not sure if there would be much saving there too though?

Here are 2 cars that are in my mechanics garage.

The merc is ex dutch embassy. The car still runs but body rotten.

Lovely red leather interior. Would it be any good for parts for anyone?

The Fiat (ZY Reg) is rotten but I would say it is very rare. The floors are gone in her.

    Thanks
