Judging by the underbody of the Ascona and the side of the Escort, those cars are well past any stage for restoration.

The ascona is an mid 82 limerick car originally, pity to see it knackered like that, they are rare enough these days now!!Though there is a good 82 one same as the one above doing the rounds in the tralee area
The poor old 'scort is totally past it!!But its a late mk3,i dont think many people would be interested in it even for parts?

You never know, there is only a handful of Mk3's left in the country, especially the lower range models. I'm sure anyone who owns one would be delighted to get their hands on one for parts (or at least whatever is salvageable) given their rarity.

P.S. Good to see your back Carchaeologist, t'was a bit quite around here when you were not around! :D

    It's an Opel Rekord

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,318 ✭✭✭✭carchaeologist

Thanks for that,i thought there was a more upmarket version with a different name, registration is between june 71 to october 71..

They are just outside navan, I think it was mantamad who has asked the guy if he's selling any of them and the owner won't part with any of them

Thats fine with me,but it p1sses me off when they are outside in the weather getting wrecked,i have a few cars that are off the road at the minute, but all(except one,the parts capri) are in sheds.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,801 ✭✭✭✭Gary ITR

They've been there a number of years now and going from what mantamad said most seem beyond repair now. I think the owner is a fairly elderly gent too

That would have been the Commodore A ...but then it would have had some chrome rimmed panel between the rear lights and most likely a vinyl roof.

  • Registered Users Posts: 959 ✭✭✭manta mad

yeah i called in to him a while ago sadly he wouldent sell any

they have gone down hill now , & need to be got inside before its too late .

the a series manta is a rare irish car & needs to be saved .
the 2 door commodore is a great beast of a car & is an absolute waste of a
lovely 70,s machine that you just dont or wont see anymore !

i have tried more times to see if they would part with any of them , but not a hope

as far as i know it used to be an opel dealership & when it closed down they stayed where they are now !

if im right his son whom i talked to a few times has an opel reckord estate
    ( red i think)

& was on these boards here some time ago .

must call up their again soon & see what their like now .

Spotted this in a garden last week. Been offered it by owner. Any thoughts? Could be too far gone for restoration, badly rusted. Interior is mint. Engine looks clean enough, have not tried to turn it over.

    Image042.jpg

Anyone willing to restore this can have it? I dont want it going for parts being an original Irish car and all. But can organise it if someone was willing to take on a large project.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,318 ✭✭✭✭carchaeologist

Think this car was posted up before,it looks pretty ropey, the quarter panels are badly rusted, though as you say,its irish,so surely someone will take it on?
