    Aircooled underwater..:p

    ....you mean 'watercooled', shurely ?:p

btw, that's the same fate as the press tooling for the DeLorean bodies (made by Lapple in Carlow, btw...).

Yep, those shockingly enormous and expensive blocks of metal are currently.......used as weights to anchor a fish farm in Co Galway.

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

    ..no idea.

...one of those weird 'wtf' type of things.

Like the small factory in Mayo that makes gaskets for Audi.

    ???

    Indeed

When the liquidators moved in to DeLorean they want to make sure that no one would be able to start production again, one of their remits was to ensure that anything that was specifically delorean was never used again. They sold the dies as weights for fishing. There is a pic and the story here: http://www.dmcnews.com/Resource/bodydies/bodydies.html

    .............ha that's brilliant info.

I saw recently on Discovery that someone in the US, a specialist is remanufacturingv them. I wonder does he have a snorkel ??

I was in the original factory, now Shorts and they still had some of the marks on the floor from the original tools/machines. That was many years ago now.

There are a lot of places scattered around Ireland that still make car components, at least until this year !

As far as I know, they still make Hino trucks on the Naas Road, near Kylemore.

No, it didn't get buried - at least I don't think so. I'm not sure whether that pic was taken before/after but it did spend many, many years parked right here rusting away....at the junction on this map, of the R336 (just under the work 'Derroe'.....Right here

Worse than that - it was VW411LE - Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injected too......:o

Now that'd trump a Beetle anyday, for novelty.

I've been in that car, back when it was still a runner (and transported fish on a regular basis). There used to be Consul Capri in the same yard - but it was pretty dead twenty years ago, so judging by the decline of the Aston, it'll be more than a bit rough by now.

It is funny how I keep listening people telling me there is no hiden classic cars in Ireland....

If I had a shed big enough I would definetly put them in and spend my spare time to put them back on the road.

Yes..i see its NZE not NZL now:rolleyes:..thanks Kev.Crawford were hardly an aston dealership were they, did they just import the car for the original owner? What was the story with servicing etc then?

  • Registered Users Posts: 813 ✭✭✭Kevin_Herron

W.B Crawfords were the sole concessionaires for Aston Martin from 1960-1969.
    Amongst other humdrum brands.

They also had the agency for Bristol from 1954-1968.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,318 ✭✭✭✭carchaeologist

Thanks kevin,I doubt they sold many of them, they were obviously set up for servicing and everything aswell so.
Sounds like it was a good place to see quality cars back then.

  • Registered Users Posts: 813 ✭✭✭Kevin_Herron

No, very small numbers were sold.

    Without going through records; Around 7 or 8 DB4, 8 or 9 DB5 and 10 or 11 DB6.

Bearing in my mind that they were a very expensive car to buy new!

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,318 ✭✭✭✭carchaeologist

Ill bet, offhand how expensive do you think, say when compared to an anglia or something like that?

  • Registered Users Posts: 813 ✭✭✭Kevin_Herron

DB5 would have been in the area of £5000. An Anglia would have been in the area of £500!!!

Dont forget a nice house would also have been in the region of £5k at the time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,318 ✭✭✭✭carchaeologist

I was expecting something like that alright, kinda pits it into perspective doesnt it...
What would a good DB5 make now?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,783 ✭✭✭rugbyman

Among the cars i did NOT buy over the years were a DB4/5 for 1700 pounds/punt and an austin healey 3000 for 700.
Both around 1980 in a garage on the dublin belfast road, .
Across the road in 1972, i did not buy an austin 8, with a broken half shaft for 12 quid.
And i am not one hundred years old

    regards Rugbyman

    Hey Kevin,
I get the feeling you've already tried to convince the owner to let the Aston go but would you mind giving me a chance. PM me his location. Thanks.

..................I think in Dublin in the mid 60's a decent house would have been more like £2500.

Still I recall you telling me that number of Astons sold here before, when I saw yours, and thinking the numbers were larger than I thought !

I still think thats a large number !
