I also saw one in a field this weekend,on the N9 near Waterford is a field with old rubbish colllection trucks, among them is what appears to be a green w123.

infact when i asked in the shop next door about the cars, she simply replied "they're not for sale"
went to galway today just to check these out but was worth it, the oul guy seems cracked, they're all restoration projects. that black capri he claims is gonna be back on the road very soon :)

It is a sin to see these fine cars fall into disrepair, Especially the Sierra's, they are becoming increasingly rare nowadays. Always had a soft spot for them, I learned how to drive in my parent's '93 Sierra diesel. :)

Yeah Sierra's are getting very thin on the ground, cant remember the last time I saw one of the original types !

Those Capri's are some sight !!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,216 ✭✭✭Redrocket

well you can find them alright, but there's no such thing as a cheap sierra these days. years ago you could pick them up for 100 quid, not anymore.

i'd say those vw busses are there 10-15 years longer than the capris... so maybe in 10 years ill take another look :P

That Sierra looks like it's still in use to me!

That black Capri has sat there for years, A lad here at work wanted to buy it a couple of years ago and he got the "I'm going to restore it " guff of the owner as well.

if its the same place that I know, there used to be a lot of Morris Minors at the back of the house next door but they have now dissappeared. I would say that the sierra is an every day car, but I didnt realise that there were so many irish reg capris at the same venue.

Also this is a prime location to exercise ones "carchaeology" skills.
Indeed:D:D, i would have to be pulled off it!!!Im amazed how the cars seem to be in such good shape, i would have thought the concrete would have corroded them quicker?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,318 ✭✭✭✭carchaeologist

I lke the shots of the capris, the silver one is fantasticly corroded!!!Its a pity to see the other ones outside in the weather though.:(

    WHATS A GT4 IN A CAPRI ?????
NEVER HEARD OF ONE OF THEM !!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,318 ✭✭✭✭carchaeologist

The capri GT4 was a special edition around 1980, it had the red stripes along the side that you can see in the picture of the silver car, as far as i know they were only availible in silver and white, dont know how many were made though. There wasnt much extra on them though, they didnt have any big engines or that kind of thing, just some trim upgrades and those stripes. I think i have one for a spares car,i cant be sure because somebody nicked the taxbook and plates for an imported car before i got my hands on it:mad:. It has the same stripes as the silver car above on it.Thank god for cartell!!!:D
