I think he's referring to the one in the Kildare scrapyard.

The earliest Pony I ever saw here was a 1990 one (owned by someone around the corner from me, back in the late 90's)

The Hyundai Pony was actually in production since the mid seventies. I think the car you're thinking of was called Excel (essentially an updated Pony) and the one pictured in the scrapyard is in fact one of the above earlier models.

Yes its the attached image above the image of the dutch car, the car probably is gone by now, the site is being cleared as it is on a bog and the enviromentalists want it empty

The Excel was sold as the Pony in Europe, there used to be a late '80s one down the road from me. Scrawb's example would have been sold in Europe between 1982 and 1985, it was the first Hyundai sold in the UK so maybe it was launched here in '82 too?

Shockingly enough, this and the Stellar were designed by Giugiaro!

Now there is a car I completely forgot about! Last time I think I saw one was 6 / 7 years ago.

There was a yellow Hyundai Scoupe also around the corner from me back in the early 90's. I'd say they're all extinct now here.

My oul lad nearly bought one of those back in the day when the clan was growing too big for the escort.....never realized there was no B-pillar in them, the two doors held each other closed. Weird!

IIRC the original boxy Prairie owed its angular looks to its age. It was first designed around 1970 but shelved and finally resurrected at the end of the decade when they felt the market was ready. There was a curvier MK2 version which came out around 1988/89 and it looked very much like today's MPVs.

FM104 in their original guise of Capital Radio bought 3 of these in white and logo'd them. They gave them to staff members who were expected to drive in the morning traffic contra-flow (if possible) and phone in traffic reports.

More of an update than a repost but that old Toyota Landcruiser I posted some 11 months back is still sitting in the corner of the builders providers and hasn't moved, stilll covered in the same snow too

    DSCF4466.jpg

Seems a bit of a waste really, I must ask about it again next time I'm over there... wouldn't be hopeful though

This is it back in January: http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg35/MrFoxman360/DSCF2422.jpg

Mk1 Stellar had pretty much the complete Mk5 cortina floor pan and running gear.

The Stellar is definitely a cross between an Mk3 Escort/Orion and a mid eighties
Mazda 323. I often see a 90 Stellar original irish regd on the road, although its falling to pieces too........:)

    Scrapyards_0004.jpg
And theres a Volvo 66 in the second shot, all these cars have been buried now though.

Never come across one of those before, apart from the one in the picture. I see the grille is not at all like a BJ40 now, would that be a scarce vehicle in this country?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,461 ✭✭✭Max_Damage

The owner of all of those cars will be shítting bricks if he has to pay tax on all the cars that are now six feet under! :D

My mechanic had one when he did his apprenticeship in Trim. He's approaching 70 now so I doubt it's still around.
