This story is like a good book, you can't put it down! The effort and craftsmanship that went in to the project is just unbelievable.

The Mk3 could be good for parts for my one!

It's a late model Mk3 too (different badges on the rear compared to the earlier ones)

ford always loved re-using stuff from other cars

or even the same car....the "mk5" Cortina estate is the Mk4 with a "mk5" front end on it, meaning you cant use a "mk5" saloon door on a "mk5" estate. (same goes for mk1 and 2 Escort estates.)

(Inverted commas because its a Cortina 80 officially...there is no Mk5.)

Isn't that also true for the Mk2 vs. Mk1 Granada estate?

Indeed, sure the Escort MK1 and MK2 vans are essentially the same thing, bar the dashboard and front grille. If you look you will see the MK2 van has MK1 doors though oddly its hardly noticeable untill its pointed out. Also the front wings have MK2 fronts but morph into MK1 at the A pillar. This makes them hard to find today.

The MK1 and MK2 Fiesta are as similar a car as you will get, bar some panelwork, a different dashboard and a restyle on the front end but those clever boys at Ford made the MK2 look dissimilar enough to keep sales up. If you bought a Fiesta in 1989 it was more or less the same design that was introduced in 1976.

Im told the reason the front doors on these Anglia vans are curved up at the rear is so when the van is fully loaded they will open over a kerb? Dunno if theres any truth in that though?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,461 ✭✭✭Max_Damage

Sure the Escort Mk3 and 4 vans were pretty much the same, bar the grill and interior, same with the Mk5 and 6 vans. Ford seem to like doing things in pairs!

mk1/2 escort vans/estates also have different wings, bonnet and maybe front panel

    Apparently quite true: http://www.anglia-models.co.uk/van.htm

Indeed. I once saw a Mk1 tailgate fitted to a mk2 Fiesta. Looked a bit odd, but it did fit...

you can apparently fit a mk1 front on a mk2 with a little work and i know for a fact that you can swap the front ends of granadas with bug eye scorpios

I wonder would he care? A Rolls to a rich man is probably like a Focus to an average Joe. How much would that car cost to put right?

Alot,Apart from the frontal damage, knackered paintwork and rough trim,it has some small rust patches aswell...

A slight deviation from the normal on this thread. Not classics nowadays, but maybe other examples of these models may be future classics. These seem quite new to be scrapped, neither of them were crashed.

It's amazing what's in scrapyards because of the scrappage scheme. Many good cars scrapped before their time. Won't be many '80s and '90s like this Polo about in a few years. Even nowadays there's a void, as an example theres relatively many Mk4 and 5 Cortinas about but when did you last see an early Sierra? Anyone else have an opinion on this?

You find that right now is the time when most of the cars from around the turn of the century are being weighed in. '97/'98/'99/'00 would be the prime ages of cars you'll see in scrapyards these days.

Regarding the 147; they might be built like crap, but still it's surprising to see one in there as they're still worth a few quid.

I used to see a lot of Mk1's fitted with Mk 2 tailgates as well. I also used to see a lot of MkIV rear lights fitted on Mk111 Escorts. I havent seen the Scorpio/Granada frontal change but why make a nice Granada fugly......

re the number plate on the second tractor, that should annoy the thought police on here, though they have been quiet of late.
