Apologies for the long title basically
there are bands who whenever you mention people Identify them with one particular album to the detriment of the bands other material.
This is fair enough if the band only has one good album but when they have other good alums it can lead to some great works being overlooked.
    For Example
Gang of Four- Everyone(well most who have heard it) loves Entertainment! but its follow up solid gold was just as good if not better musically although not as good lyrically I think it deserves as much recognition.
Similarly Marquee Moon by television overshadows Adventure in a similar way.

What other bands/albums fall into this category?

As per our previous discussion, Pulp's Different Class would be another. I've also met an unnatural amount of people that only really know Harvest by Neil Young!

Mercury awards seem to be the kiss of death for some

    Ronnie size - represent

    And probably

    Antony and the Johnsons
    Franz Ferdinand

Will end up one album bands so to speak.

How about one song bands like

Mott the Hoople's all the young dudes

tied to one song despite having released 8 albums!

    I'd have said Pulp.

Also to a lesser degree Elliott Smith, personally i feel his albums just get better as he went on. I can't stand people harping on about XO and either/or and disregarding Figure 8 and Basement.

    Other notables:

Wilco: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Vs A Ghost is Born

Seen as these are the only artists i havev due to a person knocking my HD off my kitchen table i can't really think beyond them at the moment...

Dexys Midnight Runners, for both song and album. Their first and third albums outshine their most popular.

Love - Forever Changes (bit esoteric that one)

    Mike.

Only the later albums by soungarden (superunknown, down on the upside) ever get mentioned; personally i think Badmotorfinger and Ultramega o.k. to be their best works.

I like the Pipettes. Of course they actually are a one-album band.
