    Hi everyone,

Hopefully someone may have some suggestions or solutions for a few problems which i am having with my BMW 520sei automatic 2001 model.

Firstly, the car was cutting out and acceleration was very sluggish on my car a few week ago and i brought it to a garage where i bought it originally. They replaced the coil pack and the camshaft sensor and when i got the car back off them it seemed to run fine and they said they gave it full service too. Now less than a week later, the car is doing the same again. Sluggish on acceleration, eratic gear changes and the engine is cutting out when i try to move off from traffic lights etc. Anyone have any ideas of what it could be? I Brought it back to the garage and they said they didnt know what was up with it and all readings from their computer said the car was fine.

Also does anyone have the name of a garage or mechanic who knows about BMW's where i could bring this to get checked right? I Was told there was a guy in walkinstown beside superquinn that looks after bmws but cant find any details for him, so he prob only a small operation.

    Thanks guys and gals!

It might be a fuel filter or something simple like that. Make sure your mechanic is familiar with BMW's as one who isn't will cost you a lot of money and probably not fix your car properly. I've sold a number of 5 series BMW's and problems generally are few and far between as long as it's been looked after properly from day one.

Sorry I don't know of anyone in Dublin but I'm sure some other board user's do, I'm in Cork and I use a Polish auto electrician who's a genius. The dealer's around Cork and the so called "expert" in Cork, from my experience's, haven't got a clue but they know how to charge.

Give Al a shout at ACCarsales, just off the SCR on Bloomfield Rd (up off Leonards Corner, but before Synge Street CBS on the right hand side). He's a BM lover and specialist :)

    Hi There,

I'm guessing it might be the MAF, mass flow sensor going...

You could try plugging it out, and see if the car runs any better without it, unplugging it can't do any harm. if the MAF is faulty by unplugging it the ECU will ignore that signal and the engine should still run quite well...

The same thing happened my E46 recently, was very sluggish/jerky when cold, stalling the odd time... unplugged the MAF i couldn't believe the difference...

Its worth a try, and it won't cost u a thing to check..

This pic shows the Maf (no.1). There's a good chance that it could be the culprit. Doesn't always show up on a diagnostic check either.

Ned78 is probably the best man for an 'internet diagnosis'. But I know a guy in north Dublin city that can help - PM me for details if you don't mind crossing the Liffey!
