Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Sure all the action will be in the new place , No offence but this aint a good move before the new club opens ... Trying to get the game with no charge , Suppose the dinners are from Meals on Wheels as well ....

U should know that the poker population will be supporting Green Joker Poker for the weekend as they run a fine show and Rake is materialistic to be honest Joe is well Liked also on the circuit and will be supported .........

If u give out Free Cash Chips for the night u mite get a few but as for no rake Cheeky

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,806 ✭✭✭Lafortezza

Looks like just a marketing tactic to entice punters into their club. Not sure why people think it's particularly cheeky.

Competition is always good for us punters at any rate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,282 ✭✭✭Bandara

As LaF said the more competition the better for the players.

As for cheeky? this is a public forum, its not financed by any poker promotors/company so once this guy adhers to the rules of the mods then he's just as entitled to advertise here as anyone else.

Free Rake and they moan !

    just no pleasing some people

every tourny organiser in ireland to date have tried to support each other especially when it comes to organising these big events. they are not that cost effective if u take away rake etc etc therfore will lead to organisers pulling out off putting these must need and quality tournaments on.

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

People feel its cheeky because I am part owner of Boards and part owner of Green Joker Poker and he's using one platform to compete with the other.

Technically this is a blatant advertisement that breaks the rules of the forum but my hands are tied because I dont want to be accused of anti-competitive activities. Nice one Riverside, very clever.

Regardless, I dont care and I'm not going to get worked up about it. We are committed to driving the irish poker market towards better value for players in a manner that isnt a single flash-in-the-pan marketing exercise but rather long term quality improvements like:

Gaurunteed prize pools that are clearly delineated between whats Reg and what in the players prize pool.

Deep stacked, affordable quality tournies. I'm personally delighted to see the likes of BSP and The Macau offering that too. Thats the sort of "competition" I want.

News, reporting and community building. I dont think anyone can deny that the two sites, Antesup and Boards, have gelled and cemented a national poker playing community from disparate groups of clubs and players before.

This is a cheap trick that everyone can see. Is it good value? On the face of it it seems to be great value. Long term I have my own opinions who you should be supporting.

Here's the kicker... If Mr Riverside is serious and genuine, I challenge him to run this weekend once every month.

    So, are you game?

    DeV.

You have Mods who police this particlar forum, you have rules, if they breach them they should be dealt with. If they don't they shouldn't. black and white... I know it's your site but it's policed by mods, (as i well know :) so what are the rules about advertising? Is this ad allowed or not? I'm sure other clubs may be watching so you have to have a stance on it, otherwise you could get inundated......just my 2c.:) rake free hmmmm, now that could take me up to Drogheda..

    * the rake challenge can't be taken up btw

Well the ad should be allowed since it's a poker forum and if any club is doing no rake on cash games over any period of time, then I would like to know about it.

me too! my question is irrespective of how I feel about the add.....probably unfair to ask it I suppose...given the previous post.

but I'd like to know the answer though..

    DeVore wrote:

Yes, and are all the other threads informing peope of upcoming tournaments not the same? This forum, I assume, was added so promoters could inform poker player's of things like this.

I don't see anything wrong with this and find it funny that Dev has approached it the way he has.

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

Firstly I havent "approached" this in any way. I havent done anything a regular user here couldn't do. I gave my opinion. I havent used any mod/admin powers at all in fact. Am I not entitled to voice an opinion now?

Secondly GJP is running the three tournaments outlined. The www.droghedapokerclub.com is running the cash games so its no skin off my nose. I have expressed my opinion that its a cheap marketing ploy that will never be repeated except to undercut the festival.

    DeV.

i thought he "approached" it admirably, he could easily have deleted, but has said his piece, `nuff said. Id love to see the "no rake" up more often though. its good avertising, doubt its great marketing as it means imo that it has to offer this to attract customers, therefore putting themselves and DPC to a race to the bottom which obv isnt very good for anyone in poker.

Calm down Devore. There will still be plenty of punters willing to make you rich. They probably havent figured out or maybe they have forgot the outrageous percentage you have taken from tournaments and the disgusting rake you charged, at the Star and Crescent, Boyne Valley and Europa here in Drogheda.
Nice company you are keeping these days too, the likes of Joe the Show & Co. Remember the Angler's Rest tournaments? Cheques are still bouncing.... Whatever credibility you have will be gone by the end of this weekend.
As for the "challenge" (!), I will be too busy organising our €20,000 Freeroll.

edit : the 8% tournament fees for the main event is very decent and the cash rake at the last festival was fine when i was playing anyway

Wow! That's probably the most out of line post I've ever read.

If Tom came into your club and put up a big poster advertising his festival, would you react as gentlemanly as he did?

Going by the above, methinks not.

I for one will never visit the Riverside club if that's your attitude.

being objective here as im not involved....the timing of the riverside post was cheeky , fair enough, but his last post was a bit outrageous....unless it was tongue in cheek......was going to head to Drogheda for the sat tonight but exhausted.....i'll try for a side event if I can shake sat or sun free

Those claims are absolutely outrageous, as a former dealer for Green Joker Poker and as someone who frequents their games as often as I can I think its absolutely nonsensical that you accuse them of ripping off their players.
8% rake is no where near extortianate and all their tournements are run with 100% transparency. You must remember that they have added costs which the likes of the riverside club dont.
To come onto a public forum and make such acquisations is nothing short of idiotic on your part. And I am positive in my view that it will do nothing except tarnish the reputation of your club. And with new competition in town it is not a wise thing to do.

This post irritated me greatly. Shame on you. Part of the purpose of this website is to foster niche communities and make it easier for specialist hobbies to thrive around the country. Not only are the above comments baseless, they are completely counter - productive to spreading good will throughout the poker community.

I assume that those that play poker in Drogheda will make their decision on where to play on the basis of which club makes them feel more welcomed and accomodated. Value for money over the long run. A little stunt of no rake ring games for one weekend won't do you any good if Joe runs a club in a bigger and better fashion than you can manage. And if your first business instinct is to resort to childish rants on an internet forum - I have to question whether you will cut it over the long haul.
