OK fairly basic question I guess but what is the best way of paying a Northern Ireland dealer? Money transfer? Some sort of 'travellers cheque?

I'd prefer a draft. That way you have proof that you actually did pay him, and you don't have to pay until the moment you take possession of the car.

Sterling draft is best, or credit card if you're limit stretches enough.

i was talkin to a dealer in newry and they dont accept more than 9grand sterling in cash due to anti money laundring laws. they told me they had to send people to a bank to get drafts made out.

I think you're right. There are some signs and leaflets up in Charles Hurst's about that. My understanding though is that the anti-money laundering legislation is alot more strict here than in the UK.

I dunno if they're stricter but they're definately more strongly enforced (I won it on the nags doesn't usually suffice). A sterling draft is best. You can buy them at any bank.

Alot of places won't take a CC for a car as they get killed on commision. They may let you pay the deposit but won't take the price of the car, better to ask the dealer what they prefer.
