OK, my girlfriend is going away for a year  in a few weeks.

I've done my trip away already, and she had it planned before we started going out.

Now, I want to get her something before she goes. But I'm at a loss as to what to get for her.

    Can anyone help me?

The way I see it you have two ways to go on this -

    (1) Practical Gift - Something useful for her trip
    - Camera
    - Accessories
    - Cash (Dont really recommend this one for a GF/BF)
    etc.

    (2) Soppy Gift - Something to keep her thinking of you while she is away
    - Small picure of both of you in a locket
    etc.

Both have their merits, it really comes down to your ladies personality in the end :)

Both. Get her something practical, and something soppy. :-)

I would go for the practical gift myself. Maybe a camera. But try make sure its a good one that she would be using alot. It has some of the merits of the soppy gift (as in you might pop into her head a couple of times she uses the camera or when someone asks where she got it) How many times will she look at the locket or chain or whatever. It could be put on and forgot about!

If its a camera you go for the Fuji F30 is a very good one I bought one for somebody last Christmas from www.pixmania.com
