If you have a Sky+ Box connnecting to a phone line, make sure it's filtered like the phones. Ring BT and they'll probably send yo replacement filters to make sure they're all working properly.

If you're sure your equipment isn't the cause of the problem, then RING BT.

Under the Sale of Goods and Supply of Services Act, 1980, the Good or Service must be

    -Of Merchantable Quality
-Fit for the purpose for which it was intended
    -As described

You'll be entitled to a full refund, repair or replacement. Even if you move subscriber you'll be entitled to the 2 months back (possibly only as long as you can prove it's been that bad for the whole time) which you will do if and when they find a fault. Don't just change and let it go though, insist they fix the problem - most likely isn't only you that's affected.

If you're in Dublin Magnet seem to be the best around, up to 8Mb line pretty much all over at this stage, although that includes TV and Phone in the the packages.

These pings in the evening and that upload makes online gaming impossible.
Play pes6 where you host 1 half and client the other and you ll learn lots of new insults from all over the world because you lag the **** out of people and just normal browsing feels like being on slow dial up.

A good connection is not only about download speed.

yeah, but AFAIK, no irish ISP will guarantee anything regarding ping times. They dont mention them in contacts, and people rarely ask about them when signing up.

Im sorry, but when they give what they advertise, the download speeds, thats them covered.

    Its very harsh though

No they have to provide the stated upload speed.

Ring BT and complain. Don't be afraid to demand your rights.

As christophicus says, they must also provide the advertised upload speed...as I've already said.

sorry excuse me, how could i be so wrong

though as far as i know, they do not guarantee those speeds at all times
and in the speed test i saw, he was getting 479kb/s out of 512kb/s

    though is NTL contention free?

    Better than expected.

Doesn't perform as well or consistently though.

    Clearwire 2mbit, 5 minutes ago.

Admittedly, this is a bit cheating, this is to the Frankfurt server. To explain why I did that, the server that I play World of Warcraft on is based there. Unsurprisingly, in anything bigger than a 5 man group (actually, most of the time in a 5 man group too) I get disconnected every 2 minutes. When I'm not disconnected, I have the pleasure of watching at a ping between 300 and 2000.

Your 50 pop a month at work guys!

So glad I finally got my phoneline installed, time to get a proper ISP.

    ps: this is to Dublin.

IBB 2mb Breeze, in Moycullen, Galway

Got it set up yesterday morning. We only ordered it on Sunday, excluding the bank holiday that's 3 working days from ordering to having it installed - v impressed :)

Only complaint so far is the latency...
