Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've decided to get a set of CDJ-800 Mk2's... €699 each on www.thomann.de - but now I need to pick a mixer, and I need some advice cause really I'm not completely sure what I need.

I've used the DJM-800 and its a fantastic piece of kit, but way out of my price range, as is the DJM-600. I don't necessarily need loads of channels but it might some in handy at some stage, and if possibly I'd love a digital mixer that I could use to control Virtual DJ etc.

I loved playing around with the effects on the DJM-800 and would really like a mixer with some loops and effects etc, but usually these are the really high end ones with price tags to match.

Can anyone give me some pointers as to what I should be looking at?

I've just seen the new Behringer DDM4000: http://www.digitaldjforum.com/articles/dj-hardware/behringer-ddm4000-digital-dj-mixer.html but its not going to be out for a few months yet. What else is in this bracket that would be a decent buy?

    Cheers
    Zascar

avoid the behringer! like the plague!

have a look at the pioneer 707; won't break the bank, reliable, great piece of kit.

aquarius dj supplies down in leixlip are the cheapest and best place to get dj equipment in ireland, and they do servicing and repairs as well; pm me if you need their number.

actually, a mate of mine just ordered one of these:

    UREI 1601E (http://www.ureidj.com/product_1601E.aspx)

they're doing them for €501.72 EUR over on Dolphin music (which is about Stg100 below the price you'll see them for elsewhere if you google them)

    there's a review over on scratchworx.com

the 1601e is the one with the effects, the 1601s is the one with the sampler, and the 1601 is the one without the bells and whistles.

Thanks CM that looks like a really nice piece of kit, I'll give it a good look. A few sites call it a Hip Hop mixer - is there any difference? I only really play house/electro..

This numark one looks pretty interesting: http://www.platinum-records.com/Numark-5000FX-5-Channel-DJ-Mixer-5000-FX-prod7362.htm

A hip hop mixer is built with scratch dj,s in mind. They Generally have a very simple layout. It still does the exact same things as any other mixer. Stay away from beringer for the good of your health. They're considered a pioneer knock off, and don't have reasonable levels of durability compared to pioneer.

Lads just coming back to this... Been offered a used DJM-600 for €500 but for the same money you can get quit a few mixers like the ones already mentioned above and a few more. Most do not have 4 channels - however I'm not sure if I cam ever really even going to need more tan two - just not sure right now - I wa thinking of getting somehting set up with my laptop and Virtual DJ etc, but sure if I have effects etc perhaps I won't need anything else...

If you were in my situation what would you do?

Colly I reckon you should go for the DJM400. It's an amazing mixer for the price! I've used it once and it's got the same sound engine and build and feel as the 800 but without some of the FX, the knob filters and the midi. Like the 800 it's built like a tank and is great to mix on as well as sounding fantastic!

Oh and another bonus is you'll be able to hook up your CDJs using the cables provided so you can used the fader-start feature.... which is pretty cool, a bit like sampling where you can set a cue point on a tune and as soon as you move the fader (upfaders or x-fader) the tune will play and then stop again when the fader is moved back.

You will NOT regret buying this mixer and at €455 I think it's a bargain and perfect for your needs! Check with Niall in Aquarius before buying anywhere else though as he may do it for cheaper + you get the old invaluable Irish warranty...

**** sake jsut because they dont have buttons that go whooosh!

    The most solid mixers around.

Cheers Giles the DJM-400 looks like a really nice piece of kit. I've played with the CJM-800 and it was very very nice.

However, I've just spotted the UREI 1601E is only €376 delieverd from HTFR!

    Very tempting!

What does your mate think of this mixer? I'm really considering getting one, although I can't make up my mind between the E or the S.

What does the S have that the E doesn't?

There's the basic 1601 model and then the S is the exact same but it has a sampler and the E is the same but it has effects.

The sampler is supposed to be the shizniz, whereas the effects are ok but from the reviews I've read you'd be better off getting an external effects unit which can be actually controlled by each of the 3 models.

I reckon I'd use the sampler more than I'd use the effects.

The strangest thing about the 1601 though is that it has no on/off button which while not being essential is quite an odd oversight. Still nonetheless it's a sweet looking mixer and I'm very tempted to get one.

Anyway, got bored talking about it and just ordered one from HTFR last night. Went for the "S model" in the end, €385 delivered. Says it's dispatched on my htfr account so should have it by Friday (fingers crossed).

Biggest purchase since my Shure Whitelabels a couple of years ago so I'm looking forward to having a new toy to play with, especially the Sampler. :D
