This is my first time voting at my current residency - I live in Portmarnock, so thought the nearest polling station would either be Portmarnock or Malahide, no problem would arise there as both are on the DART line, but I have to somehow get to Kinsealy - I don't bloody drive!!!! Talk about making it impossible to vote - Kinsealy is about 20/30 mins walk (at least) from Malahide DART Station - grrrrrrr - I am so blooming mad. Does anyone know if politicians might offer you a lift, if you ring them to tell them you have no way of getting there, but are keen to vote - I really do not want to me another one of the "young people who did not vote" statistic.

Your polling card should state where your polling station is.
Ring any of the constituency offices for the candidates in your area and ask them for a lift to the polling station (not sure if they'll give you a lift home though).
Better still ring them all and say that you're ringing all of the candidates and say that you'll vote for the first candidate who picks you up. It'll be interesting to see how that turns out.

I rang Fingal County Council, and I queried if it was maybe an administration error, cos Kinsealy is about 6 miles from Portmarnock, and they have confirmed that I do have to go to Kinsealy. Talk about making things difficult for us non drivers, and they complain about the number of non-voters at every election - at least have some common sense. Bloody red tape!!!!!!!

I rang , and they are going to get someone else from their office to ring me to arrange a lift there and back to vote. They were flabergasted that I had to go to Kinsealy, as apparently there is a polling station in Portmarnock - so I asked them maybe to take note of it for the next election - they indicated that they most definitely would!

So which party is picking you up?

It was Kinsealy National School. It was Fine Gael who picked me up. The PD's didn't offer when I rang them. Probably cos they knew they didn't have a chance anyway.

In the same boat once again, but FF are giving me a lift. FG constituecy number is "not in service"

The 42 bus connects Portmarknock to Kinsealy - too late, but you'll knwo next time.

I presume you are in the Kinsealy Electoral Division.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,266 ✭✭✭MysticalSoul

Yep Kinsealy is where I needed to go, but the bus isn't exactly convenient. The 42 bus doesn't go anywhere near where I am - when the DART broke down once, I accidentally took the 42 instead of the 32 (it was an hour's walk from the bus stop to home), so not exactly convenient.

Some 42s operate to the community school and the Sands Hotel. Others only to the Coast Road in Malahide.

Sands Hotel is still miles away from me - am on Station Road. Community School would be about 25-30 mins each way, so not much use, but the TD's wife of the area was really nice and said to contact her anytime I needed a lift to vote, which was nice (and I don't support said party :p).

I like it. Unfortunately mine is just around the corner otherwise I'd love to give this a try.

The candidate you intend voting for should be able to organise a lift for you. I canvass with a few local candidates and they are giving lifts.

That information I have - is the getting to and back from the polling station that is the problem. I am waiting for a call back now.
