Loving the new song, and her voice is savage. It'll take getting used to, but that's to be expected - Can't wait for the album in September

I agree, although I don't necessarily think that is a bad thing. Tarja sometimes dominated songs a little too much IMO.

She's 36 this year! She looks about a decade younger. She has a nice voice, but I feel that sound she has is very run of the mill in symphonic metal bands. I hope the album will allow her show more diversity than Eva. Its not right to judge her on one song anyway. If you look at the most recent fanblog on the NW page, you can hear parts of the new album in the background, and it sounds absolutely amazing.

About 8 seconds into the clip there's some backing vocals that I assume is her that don't lack power. She might lack the operatic vocal style of Tarja but lets hope she also lacks the snooty attitude and controlling husband

For anyone that does miss Tarja's voice, remember that both during and obviously now after her stint with Nightwish, she had a very successful solo career.

I think they picked the wrong song to release as first single with her. The samples are a much better demonstration of her voice. And yes, she *is* rather easy on the eye

It's so hard to tell by a recording 'cause they can be edited, double-tracked etc..

It's kind of sad the way Tarja has to work her ass off, to get the band noticed (I'd say it was her whom made the band famous) and someone else just steps in and takes over.:( I know Tarja wasn't kicked out of the group, but still...

Em, Tarja was kicked out of the group. She didn't "work hard" on her own to get the band noticed. Its Tuomas Holopainens band, he wrote all of the songs. The rest of the band worked hard too. Tarja always intended to leave Nightwish anyway after the 6th album, so the guys just "hurried up" the process.

She was kicked? I didn't know that:(, that's sad. i thought she left because she wanted to bring the band in a more "operatic" direction and the others wanted to keep it a metal band.

Agreed. I thought new singer lacks something, and I'd say that was it. If the sample is a sample of things to come, I don't think I'll be listening to them much longer, tbh.

No thats not what happened at all. She always intended to be a solo artist (as a classical singer) which was a dream accelarated at her husbands behest. It was sad (in a way) 18 months ago, but now only the so called "Tarja-holics" care either way.

With regard to the new singers voice, the opera vocals will be sorely missed but in the Once album, Tarja really toned down the opera-heavy singing. Anette has the same range as Tarja, and as part of her audition for the band she had to sing all of Once, which she apparently did very well. The only song she will not perform is The Phantom of the Opera, which was always Tarja's song. Over The Hills... and Wishmaster are 2 songs being retired too, but thats only because the band are sick of playing them.

Q: On the tour, will we hear legendary songs from AFF or OB such as Stargazers, Gethsemane, Know Why the Nightingale Sings? Which songs can Anette not sing?
T: What is so legendary about those songs, I wonder? I doubt that we will do those… even if Gethsemane is quite a good song. We haven’t still encountered a song that Anette couldn’t do, some better, other through practise. But one song we won’t be doing is Phantom of the opera.


Q: Anette do you think that you can do what Tarja could, because that is what is expected of you? You and Tarja have quite different vocal range and Turunen was NW’s soul and emotions, and it was Turunen’s voice that was NW itself.
T: Anette has in fact the same vocal range as Tarja, there have been no problems with any of the old songs. If it is so that Tarja’s voice was NW itself, go ahead and listen to, say, Beto Vasques’s album. Tarja sings there, too, so it could be NW as well
