Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I don't know if this is in a thread somewhere already- I apologise if it is.

    But...

I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 and last week a blue screen appeared when I turned it on saying "Registry file failure, the registry cannot load the hive file, it is corrupt, absent or not writeable. Beginning dump of physical memory, physical memory dumped, contact administrator blah blah blah"

So I rang Dell who (eventually) sent me out the Windows Office CD and told me that they would call me back to do recovery on it. But when they called today they told me I need to backup my data- now I have no idea how to do that considering I can only get onto this blue screen. Anyone have any ideas? Or is all my data lost forever?

At this stage, it is not going to be very straight forward to back up your data.

The options as I see it are:

Do a repair install of Windows. This will re-install Windows, without deleting any of your data. Problem fixed.

Remove the hard-drive, place it into a caddy with a USB connector and connect it to another PC. Then copy your data onto the other PC.

Boot into a Linux live CD, copy all your data to a CD or memory stick.

Right, So I can just do what I had originally set out to do- brilliant!

The CD asks for my administrator password though? Where can I find that.

Thank you so much for your help!
