yeah, people also get subsidies to sit on their ass all day and a free house to do it in.

Yes and their children get free education just like everyone else and if their children want they can make more of themselves then their parents ever did, but a totally conservative view would be to keep them in a cycle of proverty.

Generally it is the case that people who work get affordable housing and other allowance where possible.

There are very few people on the dole. You are taking the view that only wasters are subsides. You forget about everyone else.
