    I personally would drop the cpu to a e6600, Little bit of a saving there. And it will happily overlcock to 3.4ghz.
    I would change the zalman cooler for a tuniq tower, or a TT 120 Extreme.
    The memory i would drop down to dome ddr2 6400, and get 4gb worth.
    The raotor is great for speed buy noisy.
    The seagate is a good drive too, but the samsung t166 500gb version i sfaster, and silent (almost)
    The mobo is a fine choice.
    The PSU will be fine for what you want/need. Although upgrading to a 600W will give you a better upgrade path.
    The case is a great choice. It will keep things quiet, and cool.
    Graphics will be fine too, as you dont plan on 3d gaming.

    Good choices all in all, but buying it elsewhere will save you some money. hardwareversnd.de is cheap, but only accept bank transferes.

    anti.......

    hows that motherboard for overclocking im considering the abit fatality one as i hear thats a good over clocker but that ones a bit cheaper.....differences????

    cheers

    Thats exactly the type of feedback I wanted.

    I'll re-compile the list based on your advice and see how the budget looks.

    I'll also look at alternate sources for best price.

    Cheers,
    Ray

    You should get that with a good cooling setup.

    This is an excellent PS & you sure get "Bang for your Buck!"
    It's 580w with a Max output of 630w for €80
    I have two in use & find them great.

    Only Prob is that they temporarily out of stock on Komplett.

    I thought there would be a speed benifit from using 1066MHz memory... particularly when overclocking?

    Another reason I thought 1066MHz memory would be good is that the MB has the future potiential with a max bus speed of 1333 MHz.
    Does it not make sense to get fast memory now, rather than having to upgrade later?

    Am I making any sense here ?

    cheers,
    Ray

    Yes, what you are saying does make sense, but ddr6400(800mhz) can easilly run at 1066mhz. And depending on the ram should hit 1333 with more volts and looser timings.

    The reason we reccomended 6400 is because its sooooo cheap, 4gb for 150€ on hardwareversand.de

    You could save a lot of cash by getting the cpu and probably everything else from this crowd. i have dealt with them and they're ok, apart from having to use bank transfer. I have provided the link for the E6600.

    I see what you mean, but the cheaper memory is kinda no-name stuff, will it overclock as well as a branded name like Corsair ?

    There is such a hugh range in price, even within a brand like Corsair, is the extra € worth it?

    Jusr re-read the stickys, now I understand....

    Memory : The main standard at the moment is DDR2 . The common speeds are....
    PC4200 ->533Mhz
    PC5300 ->667Mhz
    PC6400 ->800MhZ
    PC7200 ->900Mhz (unofficial for overclockers)
    PC8000 ->1000Mhz (unofficial for overclockers)
    PC8500 ->1066Mhz (unofficial for overclockers)

    There are also memory timings. The better the ram the lower the timings will be and the better it will perform. The lower the ram timings the better your memory will perform at the rated speed in theory but in real world it rarely works out that way.

    Low latency isn't that important with DDR-2 and really only benefits select applications so unless your out to win synthetic benchmarks it's is not a priority.

    What is important is capacity and I would strongly recommend getting 1GB or 2GB of RAM in any system.

    Trackerman,

    That motherboard has one PCI Express x1 which you will probably not use looking at your list. Why not use this slot for your wireless card which will leave the two PCI slots free for whatever you might want to put in them at a later stage i.e. More USB ports or a TV card or whatever.

    That PCIEx1 slot on your board is ideal for the wireless card & you can get a very good one for it from Maplin & it's very keenly priced too.
    I'm using this setup & it's excellent.

    The card is an Abit PCI-Ex1 with an external aerial & only cost €32.99

    Indeed that is true, but the P5B DLX motherboard has an on-board wireless adaptor, that's why it might be a better alternative to the P5N which does not, price wise the P5N is €120 + €32 for the wireless adaptor makes it almost the price of the P5B DLX (€197) which appears to be a far superior MB, although it does not have the 1333Mhz FSB option. The P5B DLX also seems to have better cooling and may be better for overclocking.

    I just wonder how important is the 1333 FSB option really is. By the time I am upgrading the processor again I will probably change MB anyway..

    confused ? I am.
