Rumour has it Dana will be announcing Couture's return and fight with Lesnar today at 3pm ET.

On a lighter note, I stumbled accross this video of Noguiera teaching some BJJ techniques: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6128720650855456750

Probably nothing new for the die hard bjj guys but some nice techniques

brocks 3rd fight in the ufc...witrh only one win..surely it wont be a title shot as randy still technically the HW champion??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,923 ✭✭✭Nothingcompares

If they fight it will be in the UFC without doubt.

I'm not convinced this isn't pure speculation but if this was true this would be fantastic because:

It gives Randy that all important extra bit of purpose to his training - an opponent and therefore a gameplan. Randy will be prepared for what Brock can offer and without some kind of freak catastrophe should pound him out in a round or two.

More importantly it's a tune up fight for Fedor. Randy at 45, although a freak of nature, cannot afford to spend too much time idle and out of match practice. If he has any chance of beating the robotic Russian he has to fight him soon, in the cage, in the US under UFC rules. Going straight into the fedor fight, even in the optimum conditions cuts his chances sharply in my opinion.

If Randy is still the champion then I think that it'll have to be a title match. But if he comes back, the UFC may be able to just strip him then and make Nogueira the official heavyweight champion

The Wrestling Observer reported last week that some key people in the UFC believe that Brock would be the favourite for the fight. I think that he'd take it too

He's refused to strip him before because of his popularity...I think Brock could take it which would be perfect for Dana...why would we want randy fighting fedor...fedor's not even in my top 5....brock in only his 4th fight beat him" blah blah blah you can nearly see Dana's sh*t talk if randy does lose

Of course they do, he's their new Heavyweight star.

It'll be the same old, same old. Everyone writes off Randy then says the knew how it with go when he's standing over a mashed up Brock.

dont get me wrong i really hope Randy wins. I do think the sheer power speed and size of Brock will cause randy some problems though. What's left on Randy's contract anyway?? 1 fight or two??

Two, although the current reports are saying that he will sign a new three fight contract. Bit of a change from the reports last week saying that Randy was offering to fight in the UFC one more time if he can become a free agent after that. The UFC are obviously in the driving seat I think

I won't be saying "I knew it" if Randy beats Brock. It's not gonna happen :pac:

I would love if Randy beat Brock, but I just cant see how it is supposed to happen.

He cant stand with him, he cant wrestle him, does he pull guard and try any catch a kneebar?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,477 ✭✭✭✭Raze_them_all

hmmm I think it'll end up with Randy trying to do damage from side control with Brock's back up against the cage well that'd be my guess on his game plan

I completely disagree. Randy is a better boxer. If Brock tries to trade with him he'll get knocked out. Brock will rush Randy after a few attempts at striking. I don't see Brock getting the better of Randy in the clinch but I can see a really fast shoot overwhelming him in the commotion. So they're both on the ground. I can see Randy sweeping Brock while Brock is going for gorilla punches and all that. Randy get's on top and bashes him or submits him from there. Or even Randy catching a RNC in the scramble to get up.

Although Randy's more talented than both Mir and Herring, he also weighs around 30lbs less than both of them. I don't know if he'd be able to keep Brock down

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,477 ✭✭✭✭Raze_them_all

all it takes is one brutal elbow to open up a nasty cut to end the fight, he might not have to keep him down long

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,803 ✭✭✭dunkamania

If Brock catches Randy with a punch, the fight is over. I think Randy will find it very hard to take him down, harder to keep him down.

UFC's major announcement: Frank Fertitta is also stepping down from his role in Station Casinos to commentate on future UFC events

The real announcement is that it's being postponed for an hour. Apparently a load of media people were late getting into the building. Or maybe Couture or someone else is late

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

I'm listening to it live at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/mma-frenzy

Brock vs Couture is official, in Las Vegas Dana said. It had been rumoured for Oregon, looks like they've moved that show to Vegas

Randy will stay in the UFC after this fight. The UFC want to get Fedor

It's a title fight! Hahaha! That's gonna annoy some fans

Dana says that Oregon was never official for November 15th

Dana says that there's no hard feelings towards Randy and there never has been

Winner of Brock vs Randy will fight the winner of Nogueira vs Mir for the undisputed title

There's no more legal issues between Randy and the UFC

Dana said that Brock wasn't made the number one contender, but they're in the business of making the fights that the fans want to see and this is one of those fights

Randy says he isn't concerned about ring rust. It didn't affect him last time anyway

Randy weighed 224.5lbs yesterday and he believes he'll weigh about that for the fight

Randy says that Fedor needs to fight him if Fedor wants to be considered the best fighter in the world. Sounds like he's challenging him. Dana's saying the same sort of thing. He says that Fedor's under contract somewhere else and they don't want to mess around with other people's contracts but they'll make him an offer

Dana is adamant that they won't co-promote or anything like that to get Fedor in. He says that Affliction will be out of business soon and then they'll be able to get Fedor

Dana will be "****ing horrified" if Affliction is still around by January

Randy was asked if when he goes to sleep at night, is this the outcome that he wanted. Randy sort of hesitated and said that it was a step in the right direction. I think that he realised that he'll be too old by the time the court case would have been finished, and he probably would have ended up back in the UFC anyway

Dana says that this will be the biggest UFC fight ever and he's done RESEARCH! I believe that though

Dana keeps calling this a tournament, the two title fights

Brock's spoken twice so far, poor guy's being forgotten about

I think that's all the important stuff

Hahaha, when asked to elaborate on why he doesn't think that Affliction will be around in January Dana replied "I'm not an idiot". He went on to talk a bit more about it, he spoke sense

no hard feelings and yet he's putting him in a title fight with a guy thats 1-1 in the ufc....not really believable is it??

Randy needs Fedor and he needs him soon

Brock finally got a chance to speak and he went mad that the conference has turned into all this talk about Fedor

"WHO GIVES A **** ABOUT FEDOR?!"

    everyone involved with mma

But more give a **** about Brock vs Randy, which is what the conference is about. The PPV buyrates will no doubt back me up. Dana's predicting 1-1.5 million and more than De La Hoya vs Pacquaio

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,923 ✭✭✭Nothingcompares

    fozzy you're the man

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 138 ✭✭soretoe

He's simply too powerful for Randy and will weigh at least 60 lbs heavier when the bell rings - This ,match up is simply a smart business decision and the unfortunate outcome of this is that Randy could end up seriously hurt - oh and ignoring Brock in the conference just makes this even more likely come fight time. Love Randy - legend - but this is a bad bad decision - Brock is in my opinion the first guy to challenge the whole consept of martial arts - he can beat you coz of his conditioning and pure power and that's it - add to that some training and you're almost talking invincibility. IMO.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

I don't think that losing to Brock would hurt Randy's legacy or anything like that. It would just enhance Brock's aura. They'll still put Randy vs a top heavyweight if he loses, and it'll still do good business I'm sure

The only thing it would affect would be the appeal of a Randy vs Fedor fight. But the thing is, if Fedor does sign for the UFC then he'll have a few fights. So he could easily be put against Brock for a big fight in that case, and then one of the others could be against Couture. What I mean is that whatever damage is done to the appeal of Randy vs Fedor will be made up for by the appeal of Brock vs Fedor

That's if Brock wins (which he will :pac:)

Why should you structure your fights around a guy who may not come in? UFC are doing the best with what they have.

Absolutely, I was just making the point that the only thing I can see being damaged by Brock winning would be a potential Fedor/Randy fight. But it's a win/win situation for the UFC either way

  • Registered Users Posts: 212 ✭✭steof1984

i think this is a huge gamble for randy. If he beats Brock its like so what he was expected to beat him its randy after all.

If he looses then all of a sudden he is out of the title picture and everyone will say he is over the hill and needs to retire.

Personally i think randy will win a decision he is the smarter fighter

Also i think its total crap that a guy who has a 50% win record in the ufc and 66.6% overall is in line for a title shot. i mean using that logic Shane Carwin is 100% win record in the ufc (1 fight 1 win) and 100% record in mma so he should be in title contention also.Even Kongo's recods (22-4-1) is much better than lesners. I mean lets just invite Hulk Hogan into the ufc and give him a title shot.

I hope randy beats Lenser and stops all this hype. I thought the sport was to find out who the best is not to find out who the most popular is.

It's not a sport, it's a business :) The UFC wouldn't be around today if they treated it like a pure sport

The title shot for Brock is just pure circumstance. Randy's back for a few fights, they've got to capitalise on it. Brock vs Randy is a huge huge fight. The thing about MMA booking is that if there's a money match that can be made then it should be made as soon as possible. They could have held off on Brock vs Randy for a year, but then maybe Randy will be too old and injured, or Brock might lose a load of fights. It's a huge fight, just make it
